Netflix Helps Make Your Holidays Less Stressful! (Red’s Orange White Russian Cocktail Recipe)

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Netflix for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

My family is a huge lover of Netflix.  My husband and I have had our account pretty much since we’ve been together.  When it was just me and him, we could have stay-at-home date nights.  Now that we have a child it helps keep our daughter occupied for a bit while I get work done or my husband fixes some stuff around the house if I’m not home.

Now that it’s holiday time (someone needs to slow time down – seriously!) and it’s getting colder, Netflix helps us de-stress.  Every weekend we usually have at least one night where Rileybug is at her Gigi and Poopaw’s and we get the house to ourselves.  So we’ve been making a nice dinner together and settling down with a movie.  We have started watching The Walking Dead and Orange is the New Black, so we try to get as much Netflix time in as we can.  It’s helpful that Netflix has several different options for how you can watch it – we watch it on our laptop while we’re cooking dinner, on the Wii while we’re in the living room, and on our blu-ray player in our bedroom as we’re going to bed.  With the different ways to stream Netflix, there’s really no excuse not to use it! 🙂

Not only do we want to de-stress, but Netflix wants us to, as well!  With this in mind, they have partnered with celebrity chef Curtis Stone to create some custom holiday recipes, which are made to go perfectly with shows and movies that are available on Netflix!  I chose to make Red’s Orange White Russian, which is inspired by the character Red from the hit Netflix show “Orange is the New Black”!  Here’s what Chef Stone says about it:

I couldn’t resist creating a recipe inspired by the character Red on the Netflix hit show “Orange is the New Black”… she is a chef, after all.  This version of the classic White Russian cocktail includes orange liqueur and orange zest.  Orange truly is the new black!
So here is the recipe for you all to try at home!

To start out, you just need a few ingredients:

  • Ice Cubes
  • 1/4 Cup Kahlua
  • 2 Tablespoons Vodka
  • 1 Tablespoon Cointreau (I did substitute triple sec since I could not find Countreau at our store.)
  • 2 Tablespoons Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1 Navel Orange
First you will fill a rocks glass (I used a hurricane glass since I love the look of it) halfway with ice cubes.  Add the Kahlua, vodka, and Cointreau (triple sec for me) and gently stir to blend.

Next, just pour the heavy whipping cream on top so that it floats on top of the Kahlua mixture.  Using a fine grater, grate some orange zest on top.  Serve immediately and enjoy!

I was kind of nervous about trying this drink since I’ve never even had a regular White Russian… but oh my goodness!  It was so delicious!  And the heavy whipping cream definitely adds a great dimension to it!  I definitely reccommend this cocktail, even if you aren’t an Orange is the New Black fan (which I would be surprised if you’re not)!

I enjoyed my Red’s Orange White Russian while cooking dinner and watching an episode of Orange is the New Black on my laptop!  It allows to to kill three birds with one stone: de-stress with a nice cocktail, cook dinner and watch another episode!  Just makes me love Netflix even more! 🙂
