Options for International Schools in Thailand

There are Many Options for International Schools in Thailand

If you, along with your family, have been recently relocated to Thailand to pursue a new job or business opportunity, you’ll want to settle your children into the best schools available in your area, and this generally means international schools in Thailand. The Thai public schools are really not a viable option for a foreign child as the classes are taught in the Thai language.

Although, as the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok has the most options of international schools, there are many schools in the Pattaya area, Chiang Mai, and Phuket as well.

But these schools all offer different types of curricula. Choosing the right school for your child can take days of visiting all the schools in your area and speaking with the administrators and teachers of the schools.

Finding the Right Fit for Your Child

Most of the high-quality international schools in Thailand offer some variation of either the British or American standard curriculum in their programs. But it’s the variations in these programs that present the most options.

Finding the school and program in which your child will be most comfortable and excel within is the key to their maintaining their happiness and continued interest in their education.

Relocating to a foreign country is tough on a child. They’re forced to say goodbye to all their friends and surroundings. They find themselves in new surroundings where they don’t understand the language or culture.

Finding a comfortable international school in Thailand for them to continue their education will provide them with a sense of belonging and purpose. For this reason, finding that perfect school should be at the top of your priorities list.

Different Programs for Different Personalities

It would help if you involved your child in the school selection process. This will give them a sense of regaining some control of their life after the upheaval of relocation. You should also discuss the pros and cons of the schools you visit and take their views into consideration.

But you should also take your responsibilities as a parent seriously. You can see a bigger picture than your child can. You have a different perspective on your child’s personality than your child. Use this perspective to determine the right school for your child.

If your child is free-spirited, creative and inquisitive, they may do better in a school that caters to these attributes and offers a program that allows the child the greatest latitude and artistic expression within their curriculum. These schools will often take a creative approach to learning where the subjects are combined and the day to day learning is project-based rather than subject-based.

If your child excels in the STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics, there are many international schools in Thailand that offer excellent programs geared to provide the best advancement opportunities in these subjects.

The key to finding the best school in Thailand for your child is research and perseverance. By involving your child in the exercise, you’re showing them that you have their best interests at heart.
