Packing a Great Kid's Lunch! | Optimistic Mommy

A great lunch can really make for a good day. Or at least to me, it can. Since my daughter, Riley, is not in school yet I don’t get the pleasure of packing a school lunch for her. But, since the weather is (finally!) starting to get warmer, we will have lots of lunches at the park soon! We love taking a trip to the park, sitting and eating lunch while watching the ducks, and then going for a great walk or letting Riley play on the swing set. That’s my ideal spring and summer day, and what we have all been looking forward to since winter started.

It’s definitely a lot of fun packing a fun, cute lunch. Riley loves when I use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from her sandwiches, and it makes them perfect size for her little hands. I also love packing a few little treats for her. Here is a great idea for you to use on your next park outing, or for your kid’s school lunch!

You can never go wrong with a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich! If your child (or you) happen to have a nut allergy, though, you can always go with a No-Nut Butter, like The Sneaky Chef’s. For the warm months I love to use pretty, girly cookie cutters for Riley’s sandwiches. A great one would be the butterfly, like I used above! Just make your PB&J sandwich like normal, and then place the cookie cutter in the middle and press down. You may have to use a knife to cut the bottom of the bread if it doesn’t want to cut it easily.

To pretty up the lunch even more, I like to use cupcake holders to hold the side or snack. I used these butterfly ones to hold Riley’s cheese puffs in them.

For dessert, you can never go wrong with chocolate – especially a Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg! If you want to make dessert a “surprise,” this is a great time of year to use a plastic Easter egg to hide it in, if possible. If you have an older child, you can always try to make them guess what’s in it! 🙂

With a no-spill cap, easy to grip bottle, and no high fructose corn syrup, it fits perfect into your child’s lunchbox. You can find them in Strawberry Raspberry, Orange, Berry Brust, and Apple flavors! Make sure to check out Fruit Shoot’s Facebook page to see what’s new and find other fun lunch box ideas!
