Having an event at your home can either be a stressful task to prepare for or a delight to do with a couple of friends. Hosting at your home is an excellent way to welcome your business partners or your loved ones by also giving yourself the opportunity to take them on a tour of your abode. If you haven’t started yet on your home preparations, here are some important notes to consider before you start rearranging your home to be ready for guests.
Pre-event preparations
Though you have prepared your home for this very moment, you should consider taking out or keeping your important valuables to off-limits areas in your house. Things to remove from your living room are personal documents such as IDs and paperwork, dirty laundry such as mattress covers and clothes, and breakable items like souvenirs and mementos.
The first two set of items are self-explanatory, but the third one might be a yes or no depending on the situation. Souvenir pieces can be excellent topics for highlighting your personal experiences and even being a simple conversation starter for your guests. But if you’re expecting children or pets to come over, then it might be a better idea to keep your fragile belongings out of arm’s reach from toddlers.
Lighting spaces
Having proper lighting is the key to any event. If you’re hosting in the morning, then be sure that you have bright and open spaces for natural light to enter into your rooms. If your house is unlucky enough not to be facing the sun, then you might want to consider preparing for it in the same manner as hosting a party at night. Lighting options come in various design choices such as sets of lamps to interactive LED strips.
Having proper lighting can set the mood or tone of the event that you’re having. Traditional white or yellow lighting for formal events can keep things simple. But if you want to add more colour to the room, you can have coloured LED lights to set the mood for a casual party.
Walk spaces
There’s not really an easy way to say this, but you have to let go of some furniture if you’re thinking of inviting people over. Older homes have huge and bulky pieces such as closets and sofas that won’t cut it being in your living room. Though you could move them around your house, you might be at risk of damaging the flooring or breaking pieces in the process.
Instead of looking at this as a weakness of your home, you can consider this as a speedbump for future renovations. You can use this opportunity to let go of heavy furniture and opt instead for smaller pieces. Finding online marketplaces that partner with local and international retailers such as Kuldea can give you a broad range of furniture sources to keep your options open.
I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
These are helpful tips, but I feel like they are a little extreme. I’m not going to get rid of my furniture just because I have people coming over! If my furniture is too bulky, they can walk around it just like I do.
