Different Types of Therapy

There are a few different types of therapy that would work best for you and your child. Some are better for adults, so we can just leave them out. Let’s look over the top therapy forms that are safe for children.

Group Therapy

This can be either with or without you. Sometimes, it’s good to give your child space. This means that after the time apart, they can come back and tell you everything about what they were doing. With other children around, group therapy could be a good way to get your kid to open up. It also lets them know that they are not alone. If they have a group of people their own age, your child might feel better about their issues.

Breathwork

This is similar to group therapy (or it can be done individually) except it focuses on breathing and the connection between the mind and the body. There are trained facilitators to help your child learn to focus through controlled breathing techniques. This type of therapy can be done together with your child.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

A special and more recent form of therapy is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. This is a non-invasive form of therapy that helps your child deal with their anxiety and/or depression. It involves the use of magnetic fields to simulate the dormant or sluggish parts of the brain.

These days, most mental disorders are treated with a combo of psychiatric medications and psychological counseling. But sometimes it’s not enough, or not the right form of treatment for your child. This is where TMS comes in.

How to Determine Which Type Is Best for Your Child

No one knows your child better than you, so determining the type of therapy that will work best for them is something you should play a part in. But, that doesn’t mean ignoring your child. Bring up the therapy in a discussion, go over the options with them in terms they can understand, and listen to what they want.

Nowadays, there are so many different places to discover the right therapist for your child. Just a quick search on the internet pulls up a lot of different resources. You can also ask for recommendations around work and with your relatives.

When looking for the right therapist, the internet can be your best friend. Just make sure that the places you look up have plenty of reviews and a reliable way for you to get in contact.

If you ask people you know, just be clear that therapy works differently for everyone. What worked for their child might not work for yours.
