Simple Hacks For Organizing Your Closet

Sharing is caring!

You never need to wait for spring to do a little spring cleaning and if your clothing closet has seen better days, then that is the perfect place to start! Spring cleaning is not just about deep cleaning your house but decluttering and organizing it so that the space feels lighter and fresher come the warm weather. Starting out with doing an overhaul in your closet and better organizing the space will help set the tone for spring cleaning your home in its entirety.

Let’s check out some closet organization hacks to help start your process on the right foot:

Create A Keep & Donate Pile:

You won’t be able to organize your closet effectively if it is cluttered with clothing that is no longer worn so start the process by creating piles for pieces to keep and to donate. A good rule of thumb is to donate any item that hasn’t been worn in over a year, no longer fits, or you are waiting for a certain weight to wear them. It is also always okay to donate clothes that you simply no longer like any more – our personal style is always changing! These pieces don’t serve any purpose in your wardrobe and donating them will free up space for the things you actually wear. Remember to apply the same rules for things like shoes, jewellery, and accessories.

Once you have completed the keep and donate process, you will be able to see what pieces you might have excess of as well as what you may need a few more of. Your wardrobe should be well balanced between all of your essential pieces so if you still have an overflow of something like T-shirts or jeans you could stand to add a few more to the donate pile.

Retire Seasonal Clothing:

Your closet should be reflective of the season you are currently dressing for and as spring begins you will want to put your heavy coats, snow boots, and thick sweaters into storage. This will give you a lot more space in your closet to display your clothes that are in season properly and makes choosing an outfit so much easier.

Invest In Smart Storage Options:

If you are a footwear fanatic, then you will definitely want to invest in a couple of shoe racks or shelves to store them on so that they stay in good condition. You never want your floor space in the closet cluttered with shoes because it is a surefire way for them to lose their shape. Or, perhaps you don’t have enough space to hang all of your clothes? Installing extra hanging bars in your closet can quickly appease that. You could also purchase a couple of hanging racks if you have the space for them in your closet. (I am, personally, a huge fan of them. It makes your closet feel like your own boutique!)

How will you organize your clothes?

From color coordinating to keeping like items together or even grouping by material or pattern, how you choose to store the clothing in your closet is up to you. Whatever you go with should make it the easiest for you to build an outfit with and it is important to keep your closet that way. Your well organized closet will quickly go to clutter once clothing starts to pile up or is hung or folded improperly or in the wrong place.

Decluttering and organizing your closet space is a relatively small project but will be hugely effective as you prepare for work in the morning. A well-organized closet space will definitely save you time now that you know where everything is in there!
