The Dental Implant Process: Step by Step

Sharing is caring!

Dental Implant process.

A dental implant is a tiny titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to act as a support for a dental prosthetic. It is considered the most natural and longest-lasting option for replacing missing teeth.

Steps for Dental Implants

  • The first crucial step is to consult with your dentist to see if you are the right candidate for dental implants. Implants are not right for everyone, so it’s essential to have a consultation to ensure they’re right for you.
  • If you are a candidate, the next step is to have a CT scan of your mouth and jawbone. This helps the dentist map out where the implants will be placed, ensuring that there is enough bone density to support the implants.
  • Once you have the CT scan results, the surgery is scheduled. The first step is to implant metal posts into the jawbone. This can be done by making a small incision in the gum and placing the post directly into the bone. Once the posts are in place, they will need to fuse with the bone over a period of several months. During this time, a temporary tooth may be placed on top of the post to protect it and help the gums heal. Once the posts are firmly fused with the bone, permanent artificial teeth can be attached to them.
  •  The surgery takes about an hour, but you will be under sedation for it. After the implants are placed, the dentist will give you time to heal before attaching the abutment, which is a small connector, attaches the implant to the dental prosthetic.
  • Finally, the dentist will take an impression of your teeth so he can custom-make your dental prosthetic
