The Pros and Cons of Living in Thailand

Sharing is caring!

Thailand is one of the most beautiful countries in Southeast Asia. It has long been a popular destination for visitors. It’s where expatriates to retire to since the middle of the 20th century. Boasting great weather and a varied terrain with mountains in the north and world class beaches all along the Eastern portion of the country, Thailand truly is a gem. It is a melting pot of cultures, with celebrations and festivals occurring throughout the year.

While it is one of the more exotic locales people want to visit and even move to it can cause a bit of culture shock to many westerners and therefore research should be done before deciding to travel there to visit or stay. The following are some of the pros and cons concerning the cost of living, healthcare, entertainment and the culture of Thailand.

Accommodations

Pro – According to information from a property agent in Hua Hin, Thailand offers a wide variety of accommodations from modern apartment blocks to beach side villas and everything in between. Housing is much more affordable than in the United States and there are great deals to be found with there even being beach side rentals for around $10 a day.

Con – While property in general is much less expensive than in America it can be difficult to find a place where the owner won’t try to take advantage of English speakers. Many landlords automatically will try to overcharge for a property using the language barrier as the reason why. This is why many Thai realtors recommend hiring a native speaker to help negotiate a rental.
