Top Baby-Friendly Healthy Summer Snacks

Sharing is caring!

With summer approaching, your thoughts have probably turned to what kinds of activities you’re going to plan for your little ones to keep them entertained, and we all know that activities can be hungry work. Healthy snacking is a key part of your child’s growth, so it’s important to choose the right snack options to help your baby thrive.

Your bub may have only just started on solid foods, or maybe you have a toddler who is likely to pine for ice cream on at least one occasion. But whatever age your child is, Baby Schooling knows that finding a healthy snack option can be difficult, so we’ve created a list of healthy and tasty snacks that your children will love.

1) Cooked Apples And Pears

This snack is quick and easy, and affordable to make. Apples and pears provide high amounts of fibre, which will benefit your baby’s digestive system. They also contain vitamins A and C for much-needed immune support. Simply remove the peel, then steam or roast your fruit of choice until they’re soft and easy to eat.

2) A Healthy Food Pouch

A food pouch might seem like an easy way out, but food pouches can actually contain a whole host of fruits and veggies, meaning they’re packed with vitamins and minerals. They’re also super-simple to whip up. These Ella’s Kitchen pouches come in eight different flavors to please even the pickiest baby, and also have the added benefits of being organic and 100% natural and healthy – so no added harmful ingredients!

3) Hummus

This seems like an interesting choice for a baby, but stick with us. Shop bought hummus isn’t suitable for babies because of the high salt content, but homemade hummus is full of fibre and plant-based protein, as well as being super easy to make! All you need to do is blend chickpeas, lemon juice, olive oil and water. You can add garlic for some extra flavour if you like. Pair with boiled carrots for a treat your baby will love.

4) Yogurt

Babies don’t actually need dairy beyond their mother’s milk until they’re between 9 and 12 months old, but generally, yoghurt is safe to introduce into your child’s diet from 6 months onwards. Yoghurt is a great snack for little ones because of its high calcium, potassium and vitamin D content. Stick to plain, organic, whole milk yogurt for maximum health benefits, as this type generally won’t contain any added sugar or other nasties.

5) Nut Butter

Nut butter is packed with healthy fats, and low sugar almond, cashew or sunflower seed butters are the best option for your baby. Look for natural, organic butters without added ingredients. As these butters are so naturally high in fat, only a small about is needed for your baby to see the benefits. Simply spread a thin layer onto a piece of toast or bead and then cut into small sticks for a snack that your little one can feed to themselves.
