How many of us have ever laughed unsurely, or nodded our heads knowingly even though we have no idea what is going on? In today?s world, we are expected to know everything, and yet we seem to know so little. However, there has been something created to help us gain more knowledge faster. This is called technology. When used properly, it can help improve our education and help us be more aware of the decisions we are making. Technology should be used in the classroom to help students and in daily life to help in this process.
Teachers all around the world are adjusting their teaching style to accommodate the new learning capabilities offered by the ever-developing technological world. The students are now able to watch videos, explaining new concepts to help enable their understanding of a topic, so that they can add onto it even more during the class. Elementary, Junior High, High School, and college classes alike have started integrating electronic devices into their curriculum. In the Netherlands, students must have a phone on them at all times to check their class schedule and to check their assignments i.e. discursive essays, outlines, research papers, etc. Everything is done virtually, and without a phone to check, they could miss a class schedule change or an opportunity for additional study for the day. This type of system allows the school system flexibility to change the classes to best fit the needs of the students, based on how they have done in the previous days of learning. In the classes, students use the phone to study new writing formats, new topics introduced, and review older topics, allowing the students and the teachers to see where they all lie in the learning process so that class schedules can be adjusted. By using technology correctly, we can truly go places we never thought of.
Decisions are often hastily made without any knowledge to back them up. However, with the knowledge available to us, we will be better prepared to make crucial decisions. In the film Wreck-it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet, we have two main characters, Ralph and Venellope von Schweetz, who become hopelessly confused as they get kicked into a world with which they are unfamiliar. Thankfully their host, the internet, does not leave them utterly stranded. Knowsmore helps them find the right place to buy a steering wheel for the broken CandyCrush game. Throughout the movie, Ralph and Venellope were guided by their newly made internet friends and were able to learn more as they continued along their journey until they were able to travel around without the internet?s guiding hand. The same applies to the real world. When we step into an unknown situation or world, we will not know what to do or where to go, or what to decide. However, as we take the time to look it up and gain more information, we will be better prepared to make decisions aware of what we are choosing, helping us to make fewer mistakes, and to be more confident.
By using technology in our classrooms and our daily lives, we are helping ourselves, and our children, the future, to gain more knowledge and to become wiser in their choice making. Now, unlike any time before us, we have access to so much information, and we should not let that go to waste. We can help the education system progress further, so children will be able to maintain what they have learned, and they will be better prepared to fly to new heights in the world and make the right decisions to get them there. Technology should be a vital tool in the classroom.
I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
[…] The main takeaway for this modern type of learning is routine. Parents should enforce a strict routine to follow. This will make kids feel like they are still in school and routines should be followed faithfully. Furthermore, this will make them feel that distance learning is something serious and a lot more like school minus the classmates and the classroom set-up and increase the use of technology in school.
