Water For Formula Milk | Using Tap Water Or Bottled Water

Sharing is caring!

It’s fairly simple to feed your baby with formula milk. All you need to do is measure out the formula and add water to it. However, you must be wondering whether you can use tap water for it or bottled water.

The good news is you can use both of those. The only thing is you might not be able to do is use it straight out of the tap or the bottle. Here comes the trick of boiling the water to an extent. Also, you’ll need to know a thing or two about the fluoride in your water.

In this article, we will suggest which baby formula water to use. Below we have discussed two of them, tap water and bottled water.

Using Tap Water For Formula Milk

In most countries – if not all – tap water is safe to drink to some extent. With uncertainty comes something new in the market and that is the bottled water we’ve been sold for a long time. However, it is still a safe method to boil tap water, let it cool, and then use it for daily usage.

The reason is, boiling the water removes any germs including viruses or bacteria that might be present in the water. The water contains germs when the pipes are old, rusty, or leaked. Tap water also changes its form for some time after heavy rain or flooding in a particular area.

Also, it is considered that using a home water filtering system is not applicable to remove all toxins and germs from your water. So, the best strategy for baby formula milk is to boil the water to make it safe and healthy for the baby. Also, make sure to always let the water cool down before giving it to the baby. You can check the formula feed on your wrist with a few drops if it’s hot or not.

Tap Water And Flouride

In the U.S and other countries, the community tap water contains fluoride or chlorine. They are considered as high efficient disinfectants that are added to public water to kill the germs and diseases such as pathogens, bacteria, protozoans, viruses, etc. Mainly, they grow in water supply reservoirs, walls of water main, or storage tanks. These minerals also help in preventing cavities.

In addition, the American Dental Association also suggests the use of fluoride in the water as it protects and maintains dental health. However, the usage of too much fluoride can also cause dental fluorosis, which affects teeth with white lines. So, using tap water also helps in protecting your baby’s growing teeth, and boiling the water doesn’t decrease the effect of fluoride.

Using Bottled Water

If you prefer to use bottled water for your baby, you will be able to find bottled water that is specifically produced for the baby’s formula. It is completely safe to use, however, you’ll find it to be more expensive than regular bottled water.

You can also use any bottled water to make your baby’s formula but you will still need to boil it. It could be safe for adults, but not for babies. So, it’s better to be on the safe side always, especially when it comes to your baby.
