It happens to almost everyone. The weather gets colder, our activity levels get lower, and our waists get wider. Throw in the holidays, and it’s nearly impossible to get through the winter without gaining weight.
With that said, there’s no excuse for failing to get back down to a healthy weight. Even busy moms have the opportunity to drop a few pounds once the holidays are over. The following are five tips to highlight how moms everywhere can do something about winter weight gain:
1. Find Cute and Comfortable Clothing
It’s not uncommon for many women to feel as though they need to lose a certain amount of weight before purchasing clothing that makes them feel attractive and appealing. Don’t do this to yourself. Weight loss is a process that takes time. You deserve to feel your best at each point of the journey. Find trendy plus size clothing options online that you can get delivered to your home. Take your measurements to ensure an accurate fit. Even if you’re spending the day at home, you have to look at yourself in the mirror. When you’re able to see a good-looking woman staring back at you, it’ll motivate you to continue your weight loss journey.
2. Develop a Healthy Sleep Schedule
A healthy sleep schedule is beneficial to your weight loss journey. As you stay up later, it’s easier to grab treats and snacks that you’ll mindlessly munch on because they’re there and you’re awake. If you’re asleep, you won’t want to snack. Plus, your body needs an adequate amount of rest to feel alert, energized, and ready for the next day. As you sleep, your body repairs itself. This process is also beneficial for women with fluctuating hormones that contribute to weight gain. While one of the most challenging things to accomplish, healthy sleep for new parents is not impossible.
3. Forgive Yourself
Shame and guilt aren’t productive emotions to carry. If you’re feeling a sense of guilt about the weight gain, forgive yourself. In many cases, women partake in emotional eating because it can provide a sense of comfort amidst a chaotic schedule. Release the sense of guilt. Recognize the fact that you’re capable of doing better. From this point forward, focus on prioritizing yourself as you leave your shameful feelings in the past.
4. Exercise Regularly
Exercise has plenty of benefits. One of the obvious benefits of fitness is that it can help with weight loss because you can burn calories. Focus on strength-training workouts as they can burn calories even after you’ve finished your workout. Do cardiovascular activities daily to maintain a healthy heart and an efficient digestive system. Even if you take a brisk walk for 30 minutes, you’re fighting against a sedentary lifestyle.
5. Plan Your Meals
You have to keep track of your meals. Whether you’re doing a Whole30 diet or intermittent fasting, write down your meals and caloric intake. In many cases, people don’t fully understand why they’re unable to drop a certain amount of weight because they eat salads all the time. However, if you’re pairing those salads with lots of high-calorie salad dressings, large pieces of white bread, and sugary soft drinks, you’ll consume more calories than you need. By giving yourself a meal plan, you can create delicious yet calorie-conscious meals to help you reach your weight loss goals. Weight loss is as much about the foods you eat as it is the calories you burn. Though exercise is important, diet plays a larger role. Don’t forget to make sure you’re consuming a ton of water each day. Water helps with digestion, your organs, and so much more.
Take it one day at a time. If you find yourself falling off of the wagon, consider the reason why it’s happening. As you pay attention to your triggers, build a fool-proof routine that will allow you to thrive during the chaos. By the time the summer months roll around, you’ll look in the mirror and be proud of the effort you put in.
