What Is Pipe Relining And How It Works?

Sharing is caring!

An innovative and effective method of repairing broken pipe from inside is the pipe relining. Latest breakthrough in Science and Engineering have resulted in Environmental friendly pipe repair methods that don’t need any digging or destruction to the surrounding land and structures.

Trenchless Pipe Installation And Repairs

In trenchless pipe repairs , a new pipe is created or situated inside an old pipe or around them. New pipes are made from durable and tough composite resin materials and they are stronger than the original pipe ever was. Trenchless means there is no need to  dig, excavate or destroy the land around the pipes. These methods used a (CIPP) cured – in – place pipe which gives cost-effective, convenient, environmentally friendly and safe solutions for damaged or broken pipes.

 What is CIPP Relining?

CIPP is cured- in – place piping and is the most popular methods of replacing and repairing pipes without digging. Advanced composite resin materials are placed inside the damaged pipes to repair them, improve the water flow and extend the overall lifespan of the pipe.

Different Methods Involved Are-

Blue Line- It is used to repair cracked, displaced and broken pipe by creating a new structural lining inside the old pipe. It involves blowing the resin into the pipe to cure and form a new lining that remains for years to come.

Redline- To repair damage in small, pressurized water pipes a red line epoxy coating is used-these are behind walls and ceilings. It can fix poor water pressure and prevent pipe corrosion from occurring in future. It works just like a blue line but on a smaller scale.

Greenline- greenline is used for load bearing pipes under the driveways, buildings or gardens. A fully structural relining repair that fixes high pressure water service mains. A liner is pulled through the pipe, inflated and then allowed to cure rock hard.

Stages Of Pipe Relining-

  1. The first step is to check the pipes and inspect to examine the damage extent. This was earlier done by closed circuit cameras but now (FELL) forced electron leak location equipment is used to design better solutions as the damage is examined  more closely.
  2. Nextstep is cleaning of the blocked pipes involving multiple steps. First regular methods are used to clean and then are removed from the solid or large blockages. Robotic cutters are used  Lastly to finish up cleaning high pressure water Jet is used and it ensures a good surface on the pipe walls for setting the resin.
  3. Final check is done in order to make sure that pipes are ready for relining using closed circuit cameras.
  4. Now length of the lining is found out from the length of the pipes and the extent of damage to them.
  5. The pipe is saturated with epoxy resin. The entire length of the pipe is filled with the resin which after curing becomes the pipe. Straight and wide sections of pipe are easier to deal with than tricky joins and T-sections.
  6. Next is the curing process which is the longest step. It can be performed by letting the lining cure manually but hot water is generally used to speed up the process. UV radiation is finally used to take the cured lining to complete hardness.
  7. Before completion all the junctions and inspection pits are cut using robotic cutters for junctions and grinders or any surface level cutters for inspection pits.
  8. Checks must be performed finally to make sure the pipes are working well.
