A couple weeks ago I got the wonderful chance to visit Chicago. The World Pet Association was having their Aquatic Experience at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Fortunately my husband was able to get off work, so we went together as a family. I just wanted to share some of my favorite photos with you and tell you a little bit about what Aquatic Experience was all about!
Aquatic Experience’s motto was “Everything aquatic under one room.” And they were definitely not kidding about that! They had everything from freshwater to saltwater as well as a cool pond exhibit. No matter your experience level, there was something for everyone.
They had a really cool Kid’s Aquarium Contest going on that was sponsored by Seachem Laboratories & United Pet Group. Kids were provided with a ten gallon aquarium kit (including a filter, lighting, heater, thermometer and net – donated and sponsored for each entrant by aquatic companies) and were then told to use their creativity to design a fish freshwater aquarium that shows their favorite hobby or reflected their personality. Here are a few of my favorites: 
Did I mention they had a touch tank?! Children were able to touch a shake, starfish, and a few other things. What a wonderful, memorable experience! 
There was a beautiful koi pond and lounge that was built by Aquascape, Inc. Did you know that they are North America’s leading supplier of water gardening products? A few people from the Nat Geo Wild’s series “Pond Stars” were also on hand at certain times to answer questions and promote the science and art of building a pond.
There was even a live shark encounter show and exhibit! You got to listen, learn and observe the sharp experts swim and interactive with these misunderstood selachian fish of the deep. I think this was definitely one of the coolest parts of the Aquatic Experience. Where else, besides an aquarium, do you get to see a live shark exhibit?
All in all, my family and I had a wonderful time. We hope that next year’s Aquatic Experience will be near us so we can go again.
