4 Signs it’s Time to Declutter Your Home

Sharing is caring!

Did you know there are 300,000 items in the average American home? It’s true! And, if you think about it – that’s a lot of stuff!

Have you begun to feel like you have too much stuff hanging around the house? If so, now may be the time to declutter. However, before you start throwing stuff out, make sure you know where to find affordable rubbish removal services. After all, you need your unwanted items to go somewhere!

Are you still on the fence regarding whether or not you really need to spend time decluttering? If so, read the signs it’s time to do this, here.

  1. Your Cabinets No Longer Remain Shut

One thing that seems to accumulate in any house is cups. Does your cup collection seem to keep growing? It’s pretty easy to get a souvenir cup from the movies, a special trip or baseball games and then just stick them in the cabinet. Unfortunately, if you keep doing this, at some point, your cabinets are going to begin to overflow. If you have noticed your cabinet doors are no longer closing all the way, then it’s definitely time to declutter.

A great way to get started is by clearing out all your plastic drinkware. Choose mason jars, instead – after all, plastics have been shown to have negative effects on your hormones anyway. Also, mason jars can be used for drinking and storing food – this double purpose helps you save even more space.

  1. You’re Out of Hangers

Does it seem like you are always having to go from closet to closet to find empty hangers? Is your drawer space non-existent? If so, you probably have too many clothes. Take some time to go through your closet and pull out anything and everything that you haven’t worn in the past six months, or that you no longer fit into.

While it may seem wasteful to just throw out clothing, it’s more wasteful to have more clothes than what you can actually wear. If you don’t want to just throw them out, donate the clothes, which is a much better option and can help those in need.

  1. You Can Never Find Your Keys

Are you always hunting for your keys? Are they never where you thought you had left them? If so, this is probably due to having too much clutter and poor (or no) organization in your home. If you can no longer easily find your keys due to clutter, then it is definitely time to declutter your space.

  1. So. Many. Toys.

The majority of kids will play with toys for a week or two before they are stashed in the toy box – never to be seen again. Have your kids outgrown certain toys? If so, then it is time to put them into a box to sell or donate. If the toys are broken or missing parts, be sure to toss them out.

Remember, the majority of kids are going to play with the same 15 to 20 toys, rather than the hundred (or more) that are in their closet and room. To effectively get rid of toys go through kids’ play areas and closets once a month. This will help you keep clutter to a minimum.

As you can see, there are several ways that you can declutter your home, once and for all. Taking the steps here will help ensure that your home is comfortable and clutter-free. In the long run, you will feel better and be more comfortable in your space if you take these steps.
