4 Ways to Keep Your Skin Healthy During Summer

Summer can be a challenging time to keep our skin in perfect condition with the combination of sun and sweat, so it’s an excellent time to add some more power to our skincare arsenals. Here are several ways you can protect your skin and keep it healthy this summer.

1 – Hydration

When I think of beautiful skin, what first comes to mind is hydration. Smooth, soft, and supple skin radiates, and everyone notices. The first thing you should do to stay hydrated is drink water! You need to be drinking at least two to three liters of water a day, but you may need more depending on your body and activity levels. It would be best if you also ate foods rich in water, and wouldn’t you know it – those foods pair perfectly with hot weather, so make sure to stock up on cucumbers, tomatoes, oranges, watermelon, apples, and coconut water this summer.

Another easy way to achieve hydration is through a lotion. During warmer months, you should opt for a lightweight cream that is fast absorbing. Apply right after drying off from your bath or shower to get maximum results. And while you’re at it, choose a fun, summery scent to make you feel even dreamier.

Be sure to keep your showering or bath time under fifteen minutes, so you don’t overheat and dry out your skin, though!

2 – Exfoliation

While you’re showering is the perfect time to exfoliate your body. Our bodies shed skin rapidly, and if we don’t slough it off through scrubbing, no matter what else we do to it, it will always look dull and tired.

With self-care being on everyone’s mind after this last year in lockdown, there are more products than ever to help you feel pampered, and exfoliation in the shower leaves your skin feeling baby soft. You want to make sure you’re exfoliating two to three times a week.

Another way to take your exfoliation to the next level is through a dermaplane facial. The procedure itself is quick and painless, and the results are immediate. Dermaplaning removes all surface hair and physically exfoliates your dead skin in one swipe. When your face is free of hair and dead skin, all the products you’ve spent endless money on are absorbed much faster and can penetrate deeper, which makes them work better for you! And, bonus, once your skin is toned and has a smooth texture, your makeup applies flawlessly, giving you a natural and dewy look.

As if getting more from your skincare regimen and makeup routine wasn’t enough, dermaplaning will also help with the effects of aging. You’ll definitely see results after your first appointment, but as you continue getting dermaplaning done, you will see a decrease in your fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and those stubborn acne scars. If you are currently suffering from active acne, dermaplaning isn’t a good fit for you just yet. You’ll want to consult with your dermatologist to get that more under control before booking your dermaplaning appointment.

3 – Sunscreen

The obvious thing to add in is, of course – sunscreen. Make sure you’re replacing your sunscreen bottle each season. For maximum anti-aging protection, you’ll want to go with an SPF 30 or higher. When you’re active outside this summer, make sure you’re reapplying that sunscreen every two hours (if you’re out in direct sunlight) and make sure you’re applying the correct amount. Most adults are only using about a quarter of the recommended amount. You want to apply about one ounce to your entire body – from the tops of your feet up! One ounce is about enough to fill a shot glass. And don’t forget to protect your ears, lips, and eyelids!

4 – Buy a cute new hat

If you are out in the sun a lot this summer, make sure you’re protecting the delicate skin on your face with a large hat. They’ve been on trend for years now and don’t seem to be going anywhere, so finding the perfect fit should be a breeze. They even make UPF hats that have an added layer of protection against those harmful UV rays.

These are just quick, easy aids to keep you looking your best this summer. Make sure you add these to your routines to keep your skin safe and your mood carefree!
