If you have just graduated with a BA, you would be expected to start your career, yet more and more young people prefer to spend a few years travelling before they focus on a career. If you are degree qualified, you can seek work in a foreign country in order to fund your travelling and this really does broaden your horizons.
Here are a few reasons to see the world and earn a living at the same time.

- Gain valuable work experience Let’s say you are a teacher as an example, teaching in other countries will bring you an insight into teaching children from other cultures, plus you get to interact with other teachers and can exchange ideas and techniques. You might have graduated in mining and if you talk to an Australian mining company, they can help you to contact immigration and obtain the TSS visa (Temporary Skilled Shortage visa) that allows you to work in Australia.
- Experience other cultures You could spend a year in southern Europe, them a year in Southeast Asia and follow that with a year (or more) in Australia and that would expose you to other cultures, which is a rich experience. There are online employment agencies that specialise in foreign postings and you can register for free and check out the many jobs on offer and you might be surprised at how easy it is to set up in a foreign country, especially when you are qualified in your work. Here is some information about working in Dubai, which is a great place to work.
- See the world Many older people regret that they didn’t take a few years after graduating to see some parts of the world. Once you meet a girl and she’s the one for you, before you know it, you have a mortage and a child on the way, and while these are great things, it does tie you down. Choose a country that interests you and search online for employment opportunities, of which there are many. Register with specific recruitment agencies and they will always contact you when a suitable position becomes available. Places like Thailand, Singapore and Australia await if you are qualified and it doesn’t take much effort to find potential employers if you search with Google.
- Learn a second language Learning a second language is a real feather in your hat and that will stay with you for the rest of your life. It might be Thai, or Mandarin and the quickest way to learn a language is to live in the country, when you live with local people and must communicate.
- Lower cost of living If you live in a western country with a high cost of living, working in a third world country would be a lot cheaper and you can save some of your salary for future travelling projects.
Prior to making any travelling arrangements, do check with the government regarding Covid-19, as the status could change at any time.
