Lots of people have been to Thailand. It’s the premier spot in Asia. More tourists have gotten to experience the wonderful kingdom than any other country in the region. This is due to a host of different factors, some of which include: clean streets, amazing food, beautiful temples, and great beaches. But there is a place that not very many people go to. It’s not particularly difficult to get to. It’s use not on the absolute consciousness of the average traveler. That’s about to change. Koh Samui is one of the most beautiful island destinations on Earth, yet when people plan for their trips to Thailand, they tend to focus on Bangkok or Phuket. 

As amazing as those cities are, you’re truly missing half your life not going to Koh Samui. Here are 5 reasons to go.

The landscape is breathtaking. There’s your typical island paradise, and then there’s Koh Samui. It truly is a different level of luxury. Night markets are a staple of Southeast Asian culture, and its ever present in Thailand. Koh Samui has a few that are spread around town—it’s not a very large island. And besides the amazing food, you can sit for a cocktail or two. You can take in the sights and people watch. Just being there and absorbing the experience is worth the trip. 

  1. Tarnim Magic Garden

If somebody told you that there’s a secret Buddha garden, would you go? Of course you would! Fortunately, there’s on located on Khun Nim Peak inside the island. There’s a street leading up to the hill opposite to Wat Khunaram. It’s a big spot. There are a bunch of Buddha statues scattered around among snakes and ancient legendary creatures. It’s an amazing site. 

  1. Scooter Around The Island

If there’s anything you have to do while in the region, it’s rent a motorbike. You can get either a tracker or a scooter. If you’ve got someone with you, the scooter is a much more pleasant experience. You’re going to pay about 200 Baht per day, plus or minus 100 depending on your negotiation tactics. But seriously, there are few things more fun and exciting than taking on the open roads with the sun on our backs on a paradise island. 

  1. Ang Thong Marine National Park

If you’re in marine life, you can’t miss this place. Ang Thong starts at Big Buddha Pier in Bangrak where you can get a speedboat. From there you can go out to Koh Mae Koh and check out the blue lagoon. It’s amazing snorkeling. If you’re into SCUBA, this is also one of the premier spots to dive. It’s important to note that if you’re willing to take a smaller boat, you can shop around instead of spending the $100+ to get out there. But whatever price you pay, it’s well worth it. You didn’t come all the way out there to just stare at the water, right?

Koh Samui is an island paradise. It’s top tier luxury mixed with amazing culture and great food. When you go there, be sure to absorb as much as you can. It’s not everyday one gets to experience a place like this. And when you get there, you won’t regret it.
