Mother's Day Party

This year we’re not as limited to how we will gather to celebrate Mother’s Day as we may have been the last couple of years. While you may already have some meaningful Mother’s Day gifts lined up for the mothers in your life, you may not know where to start if you’re hosting an event for a holiday. There are plenty of ways to show the mom’s in our lives just how much we love them, and one is the simple act of spending time. So, let’s look at how you can make this year’s Mother’s Day celebration one that everyone will remember.

Take Advantage Of The Weather

While you may be a mother yourself, you likely have sisters who are mothers, a grandmother, and your own mother to celebrate the day with – along with all your respective children. Such a large gathering is sometimes easier to host outdoors, and springtime lends its idyllic weather to making that a reality. You can go with a cookout theme, a garden party, or something ridiculously casual. But, one thing is for sure, the flowers in bloom and the green on the trees create a perfect backdrop and comfortable environment in which to host – so plan outdoors this year. Just make sure you give your home a quick tidying up in case it rains!

Keep Things Simple

Since it’s your day, keep things as stress-free and straightforward as possible when it comes to your planning. Planning the gathering in the middle of the day where you don’t have to have an entire meal planned is smart. You’ll only need appetizers and a sweet treat at the end, either a store-bought cake or cupcakes. Enlist your children to help you get the party together with age-appropriate tasks; you can tell them it’s their Mother’s Day gift to you. The same goes for cleaning and prepping.

Don’t Forget The Gifts.

As we get older, we tend to want less – one of the many things that can make gift shopping stressful for other adults. Focus on things that you know the mothers you’re shopping for will either use or consume. This may seem like a minimalist approach to gifting, but it will save you time and a headache. Decadent gifts like Mothers Day chocolate, subscription services, wine, or a gift card for a massage are all great places to start for ideas. Unless you know of something material that the woman you are shopping for has wanted, stick to things she will use.

Keep It Green

2022 is a year we should all focus on more sustainability and do our part to combat the climate crisis. Try to keep your event as green as possible by using reusable cutlery, plates, and cups. While it makes for more cleanup, the investment in the environment is worth washing some dishes. Additionally, don’t waste money on “one-time-use” decorative items for the party. Instead, shop your own home for things that will work with the theme of your gathering, and use those; fresh-cut flowers from your garden are enough in most cases. If you really want to add some decorative flair to the party, consider visiting resale shops to find unique pieces that will work instead of purchasing new ones. Get your kids involved in the “why” of your choice to decorate and host this way – it’s a great way to get them motivated to help the environment too!

Go Seasonal On Food

Springtime offers an abundance of delicious, fresh fruits and vegetables in season. Visit your local farmers market to take advantage of all the beautiful produce available this time of year and choose to serve that as your food. Fruits and vegetables are refreshing during warmer weather, but they’re much healthier too. Add cucumbers and fresh herbs to the water you’re serving. You can make beautiful crudite platters with local produce and cheeses.

Hosting events can feel overwhelming, but they don’t have to be when you remember that the most important thing to focus on is who you’re celebrating and why. Spending time as a family and honoring the women in our lives for their phenomenal jobs as mothers is reason enough to stop and smell those springtime roses and enjoy the day; it’s yours too!
