Whether you’re shopping for a family trip or taking one by yourself for some much-needed you time, you probably want to make sure to find affordable deals, so that your trip feels as good on your pocketbook as it does to get some time off.

There is often some mystery around finding great deals, as every time you go to find a flight or hotel, the prices seem quite exuberant. To avoid paying more than you should, there are some ways to find alternative deals that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Here are five top tips for finding great travel deals:
- Consider flight + hotel + car rental deals.
Have you ever been on a travel site and see the flight + hotel + car rental deals? I don’t know about you but I often don’t click them when looking for cheap flights from Las Vegas and continue on my way to booking my flight while thinking, I’ll book my hotel later. The truth is I could have been saving myself some money. While it’s not true all of the time, there are instances where getting these add-on deals can actually save you a lot of money. This can be helpful if you don’t have a lot of time for planning and booking your trip but at least want to get some money off what could otherwise be an expensive trip.
- Take your time when booking.
Booking the first deal you see could seem wise but if you really want to get the best travel deals and save on your flight so you can have extra to spend at your destination, take your time. There are often better deals out there than the first thing you see, but it takes time and planning to find them. From looking for the deals on a Tuesday after 9 p.m. to buying the ticket a specific amount of days out from your travel date, there are great deals for those who are patient.
- Plan a different travel route.
For destinations that are big cities, you’ll find that there are often alternative airports than the main ones that most people fly into. These alternative airports will typically cost less to get to than if you fly to the hub. For example, when flying to Mexico City, you may find tickets to be quite high, as it’s a very popular destination and a major hub for flights heading all over Latin America. If you look up flights to Toluca instead, you’ll spend far less, and getting to Mexico City will be a cheap bus ride away.
- Look for discounts for your trade.
There are various jobs that tend to get great discounts in a variety of industries. From teachers to the military, consider looking for discounts offered to somebody in your career choice. Additionally, if you have yet to start working and are a student, there are often great deals for you as well. Some travel companies like cheapo airlines offer discounts for healthcare workers right now, as well, so take your time to see if any airline you want to travel on has offers for people in your line of work.
- Set up email deal alerts.
Most people don’t sign up to email alerts, simply because it can be overwhelming to receive a bunch of emails that you don’t even open. However, you could be missing out on some top deals if you don’t sign up for email alerts. There could be some great deals hidden there, so if you’re on the hunt for flight or hotel deals, do the hard thing: sign up to these emails.
In Conclusion
Deals are just around the corner. Take your time, don’t rush, and be patient. You don’t have to spend all of your hard-earned savings to take that trip you’ve been dying to go on. There are deals out there! You just have to find them!
