If you’re like most moms, you tend to put self-care on the back burner. After all, there’s little time for bubble baths when you’re mediating arguments and changing poopy diapers. However, ignoring your wants and needs can quickly lead to burnout and exhaustion. Maybe you’ve even reached your breaking point already. Either way, it’s probably time for a mom trip with all your friends. They could use a break too, you know.
Invite your favorite ladies on a vacation or weekend getaway to one of the following destinations. No matter which one you choose, you’re bound to have a relaxing and well deserved time away from home.
1. Traverse City, Michigan
Wine lovers, unite and head to Traverse City, Michigan! This four-season playground is home to Sleeping Bear Dunes and miles of scenic shoreline. Plus, it’s right next to Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau Peninsula, which boast more than 40 wineries combined.
Enjoy beautiful views of Grand Traverse Bay as you sip your way up the peninsulas. Be sure to sample varietals that feature Niagara grapes and cherry tasting notes. Ice wine, which requires producers to pick grapes when temperatures are between 17F and 19F, is also popular here.
2. Seattle, Washington
If you and your friends would take Starbucks over vino any day, visit Seattle instead. Washington’s capital city is home to Pike Place, the coffee spot that started it all. Check out Pike Place Market while you’re there, too. Take a guided tour to get the inside scoop on which shops have the best food and where the locals hang out.
When you tire of the crowds, take a short stroll through Kerry Park for unobstructed views of Seattle’s cityscape. Snap a few pics and post them on your Instagram story to make everyone back home jealous. The Sky View Observatory also offers a beautiful panorama of the city, so there’s no shortage of places to take photos with your girls.
3. Vancouver Island, Canada
Are you and your friends obsessed with Downton Abbey? Maybe you follow the royal family and all their goings-on instead. Either way, you probably have an obsession with all things regal. Why not go somewhere you’ll all feel like queens by taking a trip to Vancouver Island?
Even if you never leave the city of Victoria, you’re sure to have a wonderful time. Visit a few gardens or one of the many elegant tea houses or inns that dot the area. A relaxing harbor vibe will put you at ease and a quick trip to one of the city’s spas will be even more effective. Needless to say, you and your ladies are bound to feel better after a visit to the island.
4. Fresno, California
Cold weather and fall colors aren’t for everyone, so if you and your fellow moms would rather be somewhere warm, head to sunny Fresno, California. The city is brimming with Japanese gardens, museums and hiking trails. Take a tour of the Forestiere Underground Gardens while you’re in town, too. This historic dwelling was made with simple farm tools and is more than a century old, so it’s a wonder it’s still standing today!
Hit up a few bars once you’re done sightseeing or get out of the city for some real fun. The city of Lemoore is less than an hour away and is home to Tachi Palace Casino and Resort. Win big at the slot machines or place a few bets on a game of poker. Don’t feel like driving back to Fresno? Check into the hotel and get a good night’s rest before heading out again tomorrow.
5. Sedona, Arizona
Are your mom friends nature lovers? Fly on out to Sedona, Arizona. Famed for its red rocks and eye-popping views, this city is a hiker’s paradise. Choose from more than 250 trails, including the scenic Devil’s Bridge trail and the slightly more challenging path to Cathedral Rock. You can even rent a Jeep or four-wheeler if you and the ladies are feeling extra adventurous.
When you’re done exploring, rest and recoup at a nearby spa. Decompress and focus on wellness as you sip cucumber water and work on your tan at the pool. Then, catch the sunset and watch the red rocks gleam as the sun dips below the horizon.
6. San Antonio, Texas
If you love the heat but don’t want to leave the city, check out San Antonio, Texas. Take a Segway tour of the Alamo or visit the San Antonio Missions UNESCO World Heritage Site to learn about the city’s rich history. Wine and food tours are also available if you want a taste of San Antonio’s Mexican-American cuisine.
When trying to define American cuisine, you might become lost for words, and that’s quite easy to understand because the American cuisine you have today has evolved over the years due to immigration. You now find many meals that weren’t originally American making up the exotic American cuisine we enjoy today.
You’ll find that steakhouses, burger joints, and sandwich shops are the norm in America. When it comes down to meal components, you’ll find that bread, wheat, corn, and chicken are major components of almost all American meals like pot pies, pizzas, hotdogs, and burgers.
While these are the general cuisines, when you go into localities, you’ll find that the cultural American cuisines are different from one region to the other. However, even in the cities, you can request meals prepared using different authentic local ingredients for whatever ethnicity you wish to explore.
Of course, you won’t want to miss the miles-long River Walk beneath the city streets. The pedestrian walkway follows the San Antonio River and features enough shops, cafes, restaurants and spas to keep you entertained all day. Purchase tickets for the hop-on-hop-off water bus tour if you’d rather float than walk around the subterranean wonderland.
Let Loose and Have Fun
Regardless of where you and your fellow moms end up, you’re bound to have a good time. Take full advantage of this time away from the kids to really let loose and unwind. Tap into your fun-loving self, try new things and make lasting memories. Oh, and don’t forget to snap lots of pictures. You never know when you might have this kind of freedom again!
