As everyone knows, spending the evening with your family can be a great way to wind down and relax at the end of the day. However, finding the time can often be difficult, especially as the nights start to get colder. Don’t worry, being stuck indoors doesn’t mean you have to miss out. When the weather becomes too chilly for outside play, consider bringing the fun inside instead. To get you started, here’s a list of top activities you can play inside. Whether you’re an adult or a kid, you’re guaranteed to have a blast.

Table Tennis

Being stuck indoors doesn’t mean you can’t stay active too. Not only is indoor table tennis a great way to keep fit, but it’s perfect for bringing the whole family together with a little friendly competition. If you happen to own a pool or billiard table, you can even save money by buying a table tennis conversion top. As well as being easy to set up, they’ll help you to save space and are a great way to get some use out of your old pool table. You can play one-on-one, or you can play doubles and work as a team.

Charades

This classic game is perfect for kids of all ages, and it’s a great way to get the adults involved too. To play, all you need to do is split into two different teams and have each member act out a film or TV series while the others guess. It’s a great way to stretch your memory and often has hilarious results. Not only do you get to sharpen those acting skills, but other than a little imagination it doesn’t require anything else to play.

Pictionary

If you enjoyed charades, then you’ll also love Pictionary. This hilarious guessing-game involves drawing a person or object as your teammates try to correct the correct answer. Traditionally the game is played with a board, although you can play a home-made Pictionary just as easily with a pen and some blank note cards. Whether you’re young or old, it’s a great way to have fun and bring out that inner artist in you.

Chess

While chess is only a game for two players, it can be a great way to pass the time together as a family. Learning the basics is easy enough when you get the hang of it, and it can be a great way to teach the kids important skills, such as being able to think logically and strategically. Not only do you learn something new, but you get to have fun while doing it. There are also certain variants that allow for up to four players if you’re feeling particularly adventurous.

Mad Libs

Mad Libs are a great way to inspire any young, budding writers in the family. There’s a number of premade books out there and even a card game, but if you’re feeling frugal, you can make your very own using just a pen and some paper. The object of the game is to take a phrase or sentence and fill in the blanks yourself, which can often end with disastrous yet hilarious results. To make them yourself, simply take a paragraph from a children’s book and type it up with empty spaces. When you’re done, provide a list of adverbs, verbs and nouns to fill the blanks and watch the hilarity ensue.

Hide and Seek

Last but certainly not least, hide and seek can be a barrel of laughs for both kids and adults alike, Simply choose someone to be “it,” then have them close their eyes as everyone looks for a place to hide. When the time’s up, all they have to do search the house and find the hiders. This game requires little planning to set up and is a great way to teach your children to think on their feet. It’s also an ideal way to keep the whole family active during those cold, miserable nights.

From table tennis to charades, there’s plenty of activities to keep you entertained while you’re stuck indoors. Choose from this list or come up with your own ideas; the possibilities are endless. Not only are they great ways to bring the family together and bond, but you get to have heaps of fun too.
