7 Do’s And Don’t For All The Cat Owners Out There

Sharing is caring!

Having a pet is like having a child. It needs your love and attention as much as your children do, especially if it’s a cat.

Most people bring pets home and then forget about them. Well, it doesn’t work with cats. They can get cranky if you leave them alone.

They’ll also do some unusual things if you ignore them; for example, peeing on the door, scratching the couch, and more. Cats crave attention and love more than any other pet.

Though they’re low-maintenance animals, so it’s easier to keep cats. Still, they’re living beings; thus, you need to be careful with them.

In this article today, I’m going to highlight a few do’s and don’ts for all cat owners. If you happen to have a cat at home, I’m sure this article will be helpful for you.

Do’s

Do Clean the Litter Box

Have you ever heard about zoonotic diseases? They’re contracted when you come in direct contact with animals. Such issues can easily be avoided if you take appropriate hygiene measures with your cat.

Get new cat litter once a month or every two weeks if you have more than one cat. Keep it somewhere near a window or any other quiet place in the house. Make sure to clean the litter, especially the solid waste available in it, at the end of the day.

Also, in the case of more than one cat, I would recommend you buy separate cat litter boxes for each of them. To be on the safer side, you must check out dust-free cat litter. I’ve recently read reviews of dust-free cat litter for asthma. It’s pretty beneficial for cat owners.

Do Get a Scratching Pad

Cats always scratch the surface to sharpen their claws. It helps them remove the dead outer layer of their claws. Surprisingly, it’s a pleasurable activity for cats as it releases feel-good hormones in their body while uplifting their mood and boosting energy.

For this reason, you must buy your cat a scratching pad or post. In case there’s no scratching pad available, it may irritate your cat. As a result of the irritation, your cat will probably scratch other surfaces like a couch, chairs, or even a mattress.

Do Love Your Cat

Your cat needs love more than you can imagine. It’s an animal that cannot speak a proper language; therefore, it usually fails to express its emotions like we, humans, do. It requires regular stimulation to function actively.

What you need to do is play with your cat regularly. Shower it with love and care, even a hug once a day will do the trick. Trust me; it’s a little action that can positively contribute to your cat’s physical and psychological health. What else do you wish for your cat?

Do Get Your Cat Vaccinated

One of the crucial things when bringing a cat home is getting it vaccinated. As I mentioned above, there are a lot of infections that your pet can transfer to you. Besides that, your cat can contract a virus or bacteria, and fall sick. I’m sure you don’t want your cat to get sick, or do you?

Thereby, it’s essential to get your cat vaccinated. Take it to a vet once every three months for a routine checkup. It is to ensure that your cat remains safe and healthy. In case of any issue, be sure to get medical treatment right away. Remember your cat is your responsibility, so that’s the least you can do.

Don’ts

Don’t Let Your Cat Go Near Windows

It’s related to what I said earlier, you cannot just bring a cat home and forget about it. A lot of people are ignorant of their cat. The cat roams around in the house, goes upstairs, and hangs in the windows.

Although it doesn’t always result in a catastrophe, it can. Your cat may jump from the window in case it sees something exciting or eye-catching. What would happen if it does? It can seriously injury your cat, and in worst cases, it can take the cat’s life. Henceforth, it’s a sensible option to keep the pet on the ground floor and away from high windows.

Don’t Allow Your Cat to Chew Random Things

Cats have a habit of sucking and chewing random things. It’s a harmful habit as it can bring adverse results. How? Well, in case of chewing harmful things like a wire, rubber hand, or stuff, your cat can get an intestinal or airway blockage.

Would you ever want your cat to choke and die? It’s hard imagining. Isn’t it? It is precisely why I suggest taking adequate measures beforehand. After all, taking precautions is better than cure.

For this, you may need to train your cat for a while. You can hire a pet trainer if your budget allows. Let the pet trainer train your cat, and then you can peacefully sleep knowing that the cat is on its own in the house.

Don’t Pick the Cat Casually

You must have seen cats picking kittens with their mouth. Isn’t that a common scenario? Cats may pick their babies with their mouths, but you cannot do that. You must be careful when picking up cats, especially adult cats.

Picking up an adult cat by its neck can seriously injure the cat. It can cause pain and injury in less than a few seconds. Thus, I suggest you always pick the cat gently with two hands and be very careful when picking it up. Be sure to keep one hand on its abdominal area and the other on its chest to create a nice balance.

Lastly, I want you to know that cats are among the animals that can make the best pets. Due to their calm and low-maintenance nature, they can bring lots of ease and comfort to your life. All you need to do is give them a little attention and they’ll love you unconditionally for it. It’s as simple as that.

Rest assured, the points I’ve shared above will help you out. I wish you all the best!
