7 Necessities to Pack for Your New Move

Sharing is caring!

Are you moving out of your old home? Have you purchased a new apartment or rented one? Whether it’s a rented place or your own, moving out is never as simple as it seems.

After all, you’re going to move with your entire home, not just a thing or two. I’ve recently shifted twice to different apartments due to my undermined luck, so I’ve gained quite some experience in this field. Funny, eh?

In this article today, I’m going to highlight a few necessities that you need to pack for your new home. I’ve listed them in different categories to simplify the entire thing for you. Have a look:

Kitchen Essentials

First and foremost, you need to have all the kitchen essentials at hand. A lot of people don’t approve of food in takeout boxes, so one of the first things that you need to pack and unpack in the new place are the kitchen essentials.

Here’s a list of kitchen essentials that you need to have for your new place:

  • A set of stockpots, including a saucepan and frying pan
  • A cutlery set
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Kitchen appliances, such as a microwave oven, a coffee maker, a Cuisinart Griddler, and more
  • Water glasses and jugs
  • A cutting board, can opener, and tongs
  • Water glasses and coffee mugs
  • A set of plates and bowls

Toilet Essentials

Ranking second are the toilet essentials. While you may be able to use the restroom without the toiletries, it’s going to be exceptionally uncomfortable for you. Thus, it’s imperative to carry your toiletries wherever you go.

For this, you can take a spare bag and add all the required bathroom essentials to it. Below are a few things that you must not miss out on:

  • Toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Lots of toilet roles and sanitary napkins
  • A shampoo, shower gel, and loofah
  • A grooming kit, including a razor, a tweezer, a pair of scissors, and more
  • A set of towels and shower curtains
  • Men grooming kit with a shaving gel, trimmer, etc.
  • A small-sized dustbin and a pack of plastic bags

Cleaning Essentials

Can you survive in your new house or apartment without cleaning it? It doesn’t matter how clean it is now, it won’t stay the same way forever if left uncleaned. You can take a break for a day or two but after that, you must start cleaning your apartment regularly.

For that, you’ll need a few cleaning essentials. Let me share the list with you so that you know what you need to purchase for your new move:

  • A pack of sponges and microfiber cloths
  • A plastic bucket and spray bottles
  • A broom, dustpan, and mop
  • A vacuum cleaner and scrub brush
  • Detergents and fabric softener
  • A window vac along with the cleaning solution
  • Floor cleaner and bug-repellent spray

Miscellaneous Items

People generally think of miscellaneous items as things one doesn’t necessarily need. Well, it’s an entirely incorrect approach. Several things are essential for every household, but they cannot be categorized; hence, miscellaneous items.

Here I’m going to provide you a list of things that you’ll need in your day-to-day life:

  • A WiFi router
  • A flashlight and spare batteries
  • Universal adapters
  • A portable battery charger
  • An inverter generator
  • Odor removal products
  • A separate dustbin for every room

Bedding

It doesn’t matter how beautiful your new home looks, nothing is going to matter if it isn’t comfortable. In simple words, you won’t like anything if it doesn’t provide you the comfortable resting time that you deserve.

For this, you must invest in high-quality bedding. Your new home needs to have new bedding that’s incredibly comfortable, promoting a good night’s sleep. The rundown given below will help you check the things you need to purchase:

  • A new mattress
  • Bedsheets and quilts
  • Comforters and blankets
  • Pillows, cushions, and breakfast rolls
  • Throw blankets for your living room
  • Curtains for all the rooms
  • Bedside table and coffee table mats

Some New Furniture Pieces

Apart from the things mentioned above, you may need to decorate your house a little. Although I won’t recommend buying everything from the start, a few new furniture pieces never hurt anyone.

Industrial-themed furniture is quite trending these days. It’s different from the traditional furniture people generally go for, so it’s definitely a great choice for people who need something new.

I would suggest you choose a theme first and then buy the furniture accordingly. In case you’re on a budget, I would recommend checking out local thrift shops. Thrift shops offer some amazing, vintage furniture pieces that are otherwise difficult to find. You can get one and re-polish it as per the theme of your house.

Artwork

Last but not least, please don’t forget to buy a few art pieces for your new home. Everyone deserves a house that’s pretty and eye-catching and so do you. Therefore, you must look for paintings and wall-hangings.

Again, paintings can be quite expensive, so thrift shopping is a great idea. I’ve purchased my best art pieces from a thrift store here in New York City. Though I had to get them framed myself, it was totally worth it.

If you’re an art lover like I am, you should also look for sculptures. Mini sculptures and ceramic pieces can significantly add to your home decor. Try looking for them, I’m sure you’ll love the finished look.

The Takeaway

A new home is no less than a blessing. Not everyone gets blessed with a new house. If you’re moving into one, please know that you’re fortunate enough. Moving from one house to another can be overwhelming, but I want you to enjoy it to the fullest. Trust me; it will make a great memory. Rest assured, you won’t need anything else if you have the things shared above. I wish you all the best, my friends!
