Open-end Wrench

The most common wrench type found in homes. The open-end wrench is made of double-end wrench with different size openings. The wrench is made flat so it can fit over nuts and bolts located in small spaces.

Open-end wrenches are mainly used for areas where larger or thicker wrenches have a hard time loosening or fastening.

Box-end wrenches are used when you have full access to the top of a nut. Box-end gives you better control in turning compared to the open-end wrench. Mainly because the nut is safely secured within the wrench head.

Box-end wrenches are often sold in sets with varying sizes, which you should be going for. You can’t go wrong with picking up a box-end wrench set for your home. In fact, they’re useful for kitchen installments

Much like the two above, the Combination wrench is also a double-ended wrench. It’s usually a combination of the open-end wrench and box-end wrench.

The box-end side is a bit different from the original. It’s built straight so it can’t reach deep enclosed narrow spaces.

A combination wrench is a great multi-purpose tool. You can use the open-end in tight and small spaces while the box-end can be used to firmly grip hard to turn nuts and bolts.

Allen Wrench

Allen wrenches are usually used to piece together furniture. The Allen wrenches have L or T-shaped handles. They have hexagonal-shaped ends matching the openings to bolts and screws. Allen wrenches are used for pairing and holding objects together.

Adjustable Wrench

If you can’t afford to buy wrench sets, the adjustable wrench is a great alternative. You can adjust it according to the size of the nuts or bolts.

However, you shouldn’t rely on an adjustable wrench too much. They have a tendency to slip and slide along bolts since they’re easily adjustable.

Socket Wrench

Socket wrenches are also like adjustable wrenches. Socket wrench contains detachable sockets that can be interchanged for various sized objects like nuts and bolts.

Where the adjustable wrench is adjusted. The socket wrench needs to be changed so it is still more like you’re buying a wrench set.

Torque Wrench

In cases where you want to safely and ensure the tightness of the nut, a torque wrench comes in handy. Torque wrenches tighten the nut or bolt according to a specific pressure.

Torque wrenches are usually sold individually. They’re more for specific use for a specific nut or bolt. For example, the lug nuts on a car tire.

Torque wrenches are one of the recent wrench tool design innovations today. Wrenches will continue to change and maybe evolve into something that will make the work automatic.
