Due to the ongoing popularity and accessibility of social media and online dating sites, cheating is becoming more common than ever before. Infidelity can break families apart, cause heartache and hurt, and most importantly of all, can be devastating for children.

For ease, this article has been written to suggest that it’s a man who might be cheating, but it’s important to remember that both men and women frequently do so.

Here are 9 signs that your partner may be cheating.

They are spending far more time at work

If your partner seems to be spending more time at work than usual, there could be some simple explanations for it. Perhaps they are working with a new client, have deadlines to meet, or things are just exceptionally busy at the moment. Those are all very plausible explanations but, if it’s been going on a while and you feel like there’s something more going on, it might be worth looking into it further.

Most affairs happen in the workplace, so be mindful that their latest project might be one of the female variety.

Won’t leave their phone unattended

If your partner has always been quite relaxed with you accessing their mobile phone, but that suddenly changes, you should consider it a red flag. If your partner is sending or receiving flirty texts, they will do everything they can to stop you from seeing them. Perhaps they have added a security password, or you’ve noticed that they take their phone with them everywhere. If they act like they have something to hide, they probably do – so don’t ignore the signs.

If you notice your partner keeps getting calls or texts from a number you don’t recognize, you could always search them online using a reverse phone lookup. It’s not wise to do this unless you are pretty sure they are cheating, but it’s an option if you’ve exhausted all other possibilities.

They take a sudden interest in their appearance

If your partner isn’t the type to take much interest in how they look, it may come as a bit of a shock if they start to do so. It may, of course, be that they are trying to better themselves or are concerned about their long-term health, but it could also be because they are cheating. So, if your spouse announces they are joining the gym or you notice that they are taking a keener interest in clothes and their general appearance, keep an eye on things as there may be an ulterior motive.

They try to cause disagreements

This typically happens when a partner decides that they want to leave you to be with their new love interest. Starting an argument or causing ongoing disagreements helps them justify their behavior and feel less guilty about their betrayal. It also provides them the perfect opportunity to say the relationship is no longer working and gives them an excuse to leave.

If your partner seems to be more on edge than usual and you wonder why they are being so argumentative, this could be the reason.

Physical intimacy stops

It’s common for physical intimacy to lessen in marriage as time goes on but, if it stops completely and you cannot remember the last time your partner even kissed you, there could be other reasons for it. It’s worth speaking to your partner first before jumping to conclusions, but if that makes no difference, you may have to consider whether they are getting their needs met elsewhere.

They start buying you gifts

If you typically only receive gifts on your birthday or at Christmas, but your partner has recently started bringing you flowers or buying you chocolates, you may be wondering why. Of course, they may just be being nice, but if it’s totally out of character and you suspect there is more to it
