A Guide to Take Care of Your French Bulldog

Sharing is caring!

 French Bulldog

The French bulldog is the most loved and popular breed of dog. It has unique bat ears and a wrinkly face. Unfortunately, these little dogs do have some health problems that you should be aware of before adopting one as a pet.

However, as a pet owner, if you’re willing to put in a little extra effort into taking care of your fluffy French bulldog, then they will be a happy and healthy addition to your family.

Here are the basic tips that will help take care of your French bulldog.

Keep It Active

The American Kennel Club recognized the French bulldog as a breed in 1898.

French Bulldogs are very active dogs, needing at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. If you’re not able to give them this many physical activities, then it is recommended that you enroll your Frenchie into doggy daycare or hire a dog walker to take them for a walk once or twice a day.

If you have a fenced-in yard, it’s also a good idea to let your fluffy French bulldog outside. It can play and run around for a few minutes.

Groom Them Properly

French bulldogs are prone to a medical condition known as Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome, caused by their short noses.

This syndrome can cause difficulty breathing, so it’s essential to groom your Frenchie regularly to keep their airways clear. You should also clip their nails every few weeks.

One of the common health problems with French bulldogs is an ear infection, so keeping their ears clean and dry is important.

Using a cotton ball and gentle dog ear cleaner, you can do this. You can wipe the inside of their ears at least once a week. If you notice any redness or any unpleasant discharge, then this is a sign that your Frenchie may have an ear infection and should see the vet for treatment right away.

Since French Bulldogs love to sleep, they aren’t always aware of getting too cold.

Make sure to keep your Frenchie warm by providing a warm place to sleep, such as an insulated dog bed, and keeping them inside during cold weather.

Feed Them a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is important for all living beings. It is essential for French bulldogs since they are prone to weight gain. Hence, you must make sure to feed your Frenchie fresh, quality food without any by-products.

You can supplement your Frenchie’s diet with fruits and vegetables to give him the nutrients he needs while avoiding weight gain. Avoid giving them table scraps, which can lead to obesity and other health problems.

Watch for Weight Gain

Speaking of weight gain, it’s essential to watch your Frenchie’s weight and keep him at a healthy size. An overweight French bulldog can be susceptible to health problems such as joint pain, heart disease, and diabetes.

If you notice your fluffy French bulldog starting to put on extra pounds, then cut back on his food intake and increase the amount of exercise he gets every day.

Keep Them Safe

French bulldogs can be stubborn and hardheaded (just like most other pets), so make sure to keep them safe in potentially hazardous situations.

For example, your Frenchie should never be allowed to roam free near busy streets, and you should always use a leash when taking him for walks.

It is essential to provide a safe and clean environment for your pet animal. Having a pet is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is a huge responsibility that should not be overlooked.

You can help ensure that your canine friend will live a long and healthy life by following these tips. Congratulations on adding such a lovable pet to your family!
