Wouldn’t you want to be around your kids 24 hours a day until they are all grownups? Unfortunately, mommy’s got to go to work because bills have to be paid. But the truth is that some careers are more accommodating to young moms than others.
So which are these? The following are 5 career ideas for moms that don’t require a degree.
1. Dog Breeder
If you have a genuine love for doggies, being a dog breeder will be a gratifying career for you. Dog breeding is an art and a science that involves improving dog breeds through mating. You do not require a diploma or a degree, but extensive knowledge of dog breeds is important.
Perhaps the most enjoyable thing is nurturing helpless young cubs and seeing them develop into playful, healthy fidos. You could go ahead and train them to offer the best value to the buyer. Of course, this would come at an extra cost. However, you also have the option of selling untrained dogs.
If you focus on the breeds that are in demand, you could make a pretty penny out of this while having enough time for your family.
2. Virtual Assistant
If you hate the morning commute to work, you will enjoy being a virtual assistant. This is a job that entails handling administrative tasks for executives. The good thing is that you do not ever have to leave the house.
To be successful at this job, you must have great organizational and communication skills. You must also be attentive to detail and be able to multitask. Most of these jobs demand proficiency in the use of computers and fast typing skills.
You will spend most of your time sending emails or scheduling meetings. As such, you will need access to a computer with decent specs and a fast internet connection. You may also need a camera to make video calls.
These jobs are paid on an hourly basis, which allows you to set the number of hours you want to work.
3. Makeup Artist
If ever there was a job that could take you places literally, this is it. You could decide to work out of a salon, but it is the artists who work away that have the most fun. Imagine working on red carpet photo shoots, film sets in exotic islands, or on a local TV show.
You do not have to worry about not finding customers because beauty is something that will always be in demand. But you have to be really good at what you do. Consider taking up beauty courses to up your skills and to have a better understanding of the industry.
The best thing about being a makeup artist is that you get to choose the projects to work on and when to work. This can allow you to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
4. Social Media Influencer
If you can influence other people to take action, you might be suited for this role. An influencer is usually someone who is able to inspire his or her followers on social media to make a purchasing decision.
While numbers are good, don’t kill yourself because you don’t have as many followers on Instagram as Taylor Swift.
What is most important is whether you can be persuasive enough to the audience that you already have. Most people begin as micro-influencers and move on to grow their numbers.
5. Photographer
Photography is big business today and can earn you a decent livelihood if you are good behind the lens. The good thing is that you do not have to own a large photo studio or be a celebrity photographer to make a career out of photography. The truth is that there are not as many professional photographers as there is a demand for photography.
You will need a decent camera to start with plus a stand and some lighting equipment. But do not go overboard. You can upgrade the equipment as your business picks.
As most events take place over the weekend, you will have time for your kids throughout the week. Again, you can choose to take jobs that are in your locality so that you do not have to be too far from home.

You must not necessarily have a degree in order to get into a highly rewarding career. You only need to look at the skills you have and the opportunities around you to make a successful career out of it.
