Choosing the pillows for a good night’s sleep is a drawing process because they come in many shapes and sizes. For a person who is shopping for the first time for buying pillows is unlikely to find the right one that caters all his needs and provides him with the desired comfort. But once you have chosen it becomes mandatory to dress it up with pillowcases the way you dress up your mattress with a bottom sheet or other bedding elements. Pillow cases are a matter of personal preference but they are more of a fun part because they allow you to bring variation in your bedroom and get rid of the constant bedding appearance. 

They are made using different fabric material and weaving techniques which make them vary greatly not only in overall appearance but also the features like comfort, softness and warmth. So one needs to be very careful while choosing them and look for some specific features rather than using the price tag as a quality indicator. Before jumping to our discussion let us first determine why it is necessary to use pillow cases?

Pillow covers are a good companion for your pillows as they protect them from normal wear and tear and act as a barrier between the body and the filling material itself. They absorb the body moisture, skin and hair oils and prevent them from getting absorbed into the pillow prolonging its life. They also protect the pillows from dead skin cells and germ setting as well. Moreover pillow shells are not very much soft and do not provide significant comfort which is why using pillow covers allows you to get a fresh surface to rest your head-on. One of the main reasons to opt for the cover is pillows and cushions are heavy and not convenient to wash frequently whereas the cave covers are quite easy to remove, replace and clean even for every laundry day.

Pillows cases are available in various styles which include the following.

Housewife Pillow covers: They are widely used and popular for their snuggly fit over any pillow. They have a button for extra fabric states in the form of an envelope to close the opening end. They do not slip at all giving the pillow and hassle-free fitted look.

Bag style covers: as their name indicates they resemble a bag in shape and look quite similar to it. Do not have a zipper button or envelope flap to close the opening and instead contain a stitched ribbon or string that runs across one of the ends and help to keep the pillow enclosed inside the cover. When compared with housewife style these are not very secure and fitted. Instead decorate the wrinkled look with small and neat folds evenly distributed on the surface. 

Oxford style covers: it contains an opening located on the backside of the cover. The opening mostly contains a zipper.  It looks like a pocket cover where the pillow is meant to put in and away flat without mitering. Although the covering is secure but they do not create a snug fit over the pillow and keep on slipping.

There are kinds of fabric used for making pillowcases, kitchen cloth, natural and synthetic material. Commonly cotton, linen, silk, and their blends are used but sometimes synthetic or blended fabric are also opted. Natural materials offer comfort, luxury, most importantly they are environment friendly. Whereas synthetic ones can we be less skin and environment friendly sometimes. Pillows are given some popular choices when it comes to pillow cover fabric along with their benefits to help you choose the one that provides you with utmost you have been looking for. 

Cotton and cotton blends: Cotton is a natural fabric which makes it environment friendly and easily accessible. They are very soft, breathable and moisture absorber Plus today offer almost negligible resistance between skin and pillow, allowing your skin to breathe and rest comfortably. They are a good go-to choice for warm sleepers and kids. When it comes to cotton blended fabric they tend to be less breathable and airy although they’re more durable and smooth. 

Linen: it is also a natural fabric and offers comparable durability and breathability to that of cotton. Cotton covers power lightweight and requires low maintenance moreover they are very beneficial for warm sleepers because they tend to create breezy wives and the effect of coolness. Note that they are prone to wrinkles. 

Silk: silk covers are where it is more durable and highly insulating. They offer thermoregulatory features and keep your face at a moderate temperature without making it very hot or very cold. Silky soft fibers contain natural protein which helps the skin to rejuvenate and retain its moisture. They also prevent read lines and provide the user with fresh skin. Silk covers do wonders to hair as well. If you have enough budget we recommend you to go for silk pillow cases.

Satin: it is also a very smooth and soft fabric which offers zero resistance. It is very beneficial for both skin and hair like silk. It is less prone to staining and wrinkles therefore need low maintenance. The only disadvantage of this fabric is less breathability and air circulation.

Flannel: it is a famous type of cotton weave. It has a rough texture and provides gentle friction between skin and the fabric which gives it more like a massage feeling and relaxes the skin. It is thicker and has a soft texture. This fabric is useful for making winter cover as it is thick enough to provide guard against coldness. Velvet: it can be regarded both as Natural and synthetic material depending upon the source it is made from. It has a thick pile on the surface which makes it thermally insulated and able to provide enough warmth to the user. They are very durable and provide exceptional softness and comfort as well. Note that velvet cases required high maintenance and care.
