The Banking sector is one of the highest employment-generating industries in the country. Among the various posts for which recruitment is conducted annually, the Bank Probationary Officer is one which is the most sought after.

Except for the State Bank of India, all major Public sector banks in the country participate in the IBPS recruitment conducted annually. Close to 15 PSBs are a part of the IBPS PO recruitment and a combined test is conducted for all. During the final shortlisting, the candidates are appointed to the different Banks as per the marks scored by them and their preference.

Step by Step Bank PO Recruitment Process

The entire procedure from the announcement of released vacancies to the final allotment takes close to 6 months for completion. Discussed below is each step of the recruitment procedure in detail.

  • Official Notification Release – All the important information like eligibility, exam dates, the application process, documents required, salary, probation, etc. are mentioned in this notification. Based on the criteria mentioned in it, candidates can move on with the next step of the recruitment process
  • Online Registration – If the aspirant is eligible for the post, he/she can register themselves online and fill in the application form. Personal information, educational and academic qualifications, category-details, choice of exam centre and uploading of documents are all included in the registration form. Once all the detailed are filled and the application fee is paid, the registration is complete
  • Release of Admit Card – Once the application is accepted, the admit cards are released for the candidates appearing for the preliminary examination. Those you qualify this stage, the mains hall ticket is released and then based on further shortlisting Interview call letters are released
  • Conducting the Examination – Because of the number of candidates, the IBPS PO online examination is conducted in multiple shifts on multiple days. The standard of the paper is the same for all, however, the questions differ. It is the candidate’s performance in these online computer-based prelims and mains test that the shortlisting is done
  • Interview – This is the final phase of the examination. The final shortlisting of candidates is done based on the marks scored in Mains and Interview combined together. Thus, it is a key aspect of the recruitment process. 
  • Result Declaration – After each stage of the exam, the result is declared where based on a standard cut off, the shortlisting of candidates is done. Along with the result, the marks scored by candidates in different stages is also released for them to be able to analyse their performance
  • Provisional Allotment – Once the written exam and the Interviews are done, the final stage is the provisional allotment where the candidates are assigned different PSBs based on their marks and on their preference. This finally brings the IBPS PO recruitment to an end

After joining their respective Public Sector Banks, candidates are appointed for a probation period of two years which may also depend on each Bank.

Since the IBPS PO 2020 recruitment has already started, candidates who could not apply this year should start their preparation for the 2021 recruitment. 

However, it is expected that the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) shall soon take over the responsibility of conducting a Common test for IBPS, RRB and SSC posts.
