Are you feeling down? Are you feeling hopeless at the moment? If so, there is hope for you when your hope is in the right place. The hope is not going to be in anything that you can do on your own. In our own strength, the only thing that we can do is fill our empty souls for a moment. However, then we are back to feeling empty and low again. We need something that is unlike any other temporary thing. Things that we can buy are temporary. Things that we can do to feel better about ourselves are also temporary.There is only one thing that remains consistent and never changes. There is only one thing that truly satisfies the soul and hunger in our hearts. That one thing that will satisfy us in our hopeless state is Christ. This is the difference between protestant and Catholic beliefs. This is the difference between life and death. This is the difference between satisfaction and emptiness. The only cure is Jesus Christ.
What does He say in the Bible? He says, in Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He says to come. He doesn’t tell you to try to figure things out first. He doesn’t tell you to look to yourself and see what you can muster up in your own strength. He says none of that. However, He does say to come. Not only that, but He promises that He will give you rest. He’ll give you rest from all of your striving. From all of those thoughts that tell you that it’s not going to work out. From all of the fear that you have.He has promised you rest and that’s comforting for people like me who need rest. Stop worrying, instead put your hope in Christ. Trust that He has forgiven you for the forgiveness of sins. Also, trust that He is in full control of your life. He will protect you and help you. There is nothing that can happen to you that is going to catch Him by surprise. Focus on Him. Get into worship knowing that He loves you and He wants to hear from you. Be open and vulnerable with God. The more that you go to Him with everything the more that He will speak life and encouragement in you.
