To show you really know how to pull off a spooky themed party, try making some of the eats yourself. This does not have to be a complicated process to be impressive. For example, you can dress up your regular cake pan brownies with white icing to make them look like mummies. You can also make frozen bananas look like mini ghosts with the right application of white chocolate. Just dip the bananas in the white chocolate and add some dark chocolate eyes and allow the freezer to do the rest of the work. This is certainly not as scary as it is completely delicious. Just place a stack of plates by the snack counter and you will find that your homemade treats are the first to vanish into the night.

2. Costume Competitions

It is very important to go all out with Halloween costumes and those that do so deserve a little extra recognition. You can have a ballot box or a pumpkin hollowed out for this very purpose where your guests will nominate the best costumes in the party. Then the votes can be tallied and announced and the winner decided by the loudest round of applause. Make sure you have prepared a special prize to present to the winner.

3. Set up a Caramel Apple Bar

What better way to liven the party than to bring back an old family favorite, candied caramel apples. Dip apples in caramel and allow your guests to roll their treat in various toppings you place on display, like nuts, sprinkles, coconut flakes or anything else you can think of. If you have a stove you can apply to this project, consider melting down some chocolate as well. Making a swirl of dark chocolate and caramel is impossible to beat. These special treats actually make one of the very best party favors.

4. Look for Retro Decorations

If you really want to strike that spooky and scary note, consider hitting up the local antique shops is one of the best ideas. Look for old creepy looking dolls, oil lamps and dusty old clocks all make the perfect additions, host a party with some fun light up party rings. You may even be able to find some of those old black and white paintings of photos that look great draped with spooky cobwebs. It will look just like one of those haunted mansion rides you have seen at the amusement parks.

Pumpkins are one of the most symbolic emblems of Halloween. But, this special fruit yes! Pumpkin is fruit is about far more than special pies and decorations. Visit your local market for a variety of pumpkins that can be used for fondue pots, ice-buckets, candy dishes, punch bowls and just about any other kind of receptacle you can think of. If you have the time and creativity, a pumpkin can be carved into miniature fairy houses complete with indoor candles. This is super fun to make and super cool to see.

6. Keep Tabs on the Drinks

Here is a classic party problem: you place your cup down for a second, and suddenly can’t remember which of the cups at the party was yours. You can avoid confusion by allowing your guests to personalize their cups with googly eyes, special stickers and other crafty ideas. The idea will be to make a monster out of your personal drinking cup. So, foam bat wings, pipe cleaners and other objects can be the perfect thing to have on hand.

7. Supernatural Cocktails

You can take your party mix to the very next level with a little bit of science. For example, gin and tonic is a popular drink but becomes something mythic under black light. The quinine content of tonic water will allow the drink to glow with an unearthly light. Another idea for those looking to make an unforgettable experience is dry ice. This solid form of frozen carbon dioxide will sublime into a fine smoke that makes any simple drink seem like an unearthly witches brew. You can place this in the punch bowl for an atmospheric touch. You can even place it in an individual cup, but it is not safe to touch dry ice with hands, lips or tongue so be very careful.
