Life can get pretty crazy sometimes and it can be really difficult to ensure you’re providing your body with the essential nutrients it needs to thrive. Deciding what you’re going to eat and when you’re going to eat it can be a tough decision that’s made even harder if you’re also looking for plant-based options.

Smoothies can be an excellent option for those looking to quickly and easily incorporate extra nutrients into their diet. Whether you wake up in the mornings and are too busy to prepare breakfast, or you’re looking for an energy boost before or after a workout, smoothies are the perfect solution.

Below are 5 vegan smoothies that are delicious, nutritious and sure to keep you energised throughout the day.

Classic Breakfast Smoothie

Ingredients: Oats, Banana, Almond Milk & Hemp seeds.

This classic breakfast smoothie can be made quickly and is sure to get your day off to a great start.

Oats are really high in protein, fibre and are a slow-burning carbohydrate. The oats in this smoothie will release energy slowly throughout the day and keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Hemp seeds are rich in omega 3 and 6, contain a whole host of vitamins and minerals and are a really good source of protein. Adding hemp seeds to the mix will give your smoothie a mild, nutty flavour. For a touch of sweetest, add a dash of maple syrup before giving the whole lot a blitz in your blender.

Green Smoothie With Spirulina

Ingredients: Handful of spinach, Chia seeds, Coconut Water, Pineapple, Mango, Half a banana and spirulina.

This healthy green smoothie is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. Spirulina is incredibly nutritious and has many health benefits. It’s this superfood, along with the spinach that gives this fresh-tasting smoothie it’s striking green colour. The chia seeds provide protein and are also bursting with essential nutrients. Pineapple and mango add a refreshing, fruity twist whilst providing just enough sweetest. If you prefer a creamier smoothie you could add a dash of coconut cream or coconut milk.

Chocolate & Date

Ingredients: Banana, almond milk, oats, chia seeds, flax seeds, cacao powder, dates.

If you’re looking for a guilt-free, sweet-treat, then this chocolatey smoothie is sure to please. The beauty of this sweet and tasty smoothie is its ability to satisfy your cravings whilst still being super healthy. The raw cacao, which gives this velvety smoothie its rich chocolate flavour is full of precious antioxidants, fibre and essential fatty acids. The banana and oats are added to provide texture, so feel free to experiment with how much of each you include in order to achieve your preferred consistency. Dates are used to give the smoothie sweetness, but will also give you a much-needed energy boost.

Zesty Green Smoothie

Ingredients: Kale, ginger, mango, apple, coconut water, lime juice.

Looking for a green smoothie that’s sweet, zesty and refreshing? Look no further. This green smoothie is thinner in consistency than the others previously mentioned and is almost like a green juice. The goodness in this smoothie comes from the kale and ginger. Kale has more vitamin C than an orange, without the sugar and surprisingly, more calcium than milk. It’s also full of antioxidants, is good for your digestive system and is great for cardiovascular support. Ginger is one of the healthiest spices around with many beneficial qualities. It can help with nausea, has anti-inflammatory effects and is said to lower blood sugars. If you’re not a fan of the distinctive flavour of kale then consider using spinach instead.

Mixed Berry Smoothie

Ingredients: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, chia seeds, almond milk, maca powder, flax seeds, oats.

Who doesn’t love a berry smoothie? This list would not be complete without one! A comforting and familiar flavour that’s loved by everyone. You can add any berries you like to this one. If you want to go extra healthy throw in a handful of goji berries, cranberries or acai berries. Chia and flax seeds are added for extra goodness whilst oats give texture and substance. Maca root has many health benefits and can help increase energy levels and improve your mood. If you like your berry smoothies to taste a little more luxurious then add a generous spoonful of dairy-free or coconut yoghurt.

Smoothies are a simple and stress-free way to add extra goodness into your diet and require the smallest amount of preparation. If you’re really short on time why not make up a handful of smoothie packs that are ready to throw into the blender at any point throughout the day?  Simply fill a few sandwich bags with the fruits and veggies of your choice and store them in the freezer. When you’re ready, pop the contents of the bag in your blender with the coconut water or nut milk of your choice and you’ve got a quick and delicious snack in minutes.
