How many of us are guilty of buying groceries in plastic bags? Or drinking coffee from a place that uses plastic straws? Several of us! Right? It is challenging to stop using plastic altogether. However, we all are trying to reduce the use of plastic in our daily life.

Still, it is not enough because as long as everyone gets on board, we cannot beat micro-pollution. Also, businesses all around the globe need to start making changes from their level. That means not using plastic in manufacturing, assembling, or transporting their products.

plastic pollution

The current state of plastic pollution is sad, and it will keep getting worse if we don’t do something about it. For instance, the ocean currently has tons of micro & macro pieces of plastic. These lead to the death of multiple sea animals, which is just sad.

These statistics are not fake, so here are a few things you can do at your level to combat plastic pollution.

1. Make sure you bring reusable bag to every shop

Make sure you always carry a reusable bag with you irrespective of whether you are going shopping or not. There are times when we see a place and remember to buy something. And we have to use their plastic bags because we are not carrying any cloth bags with us.

Even though the government in many countries has banned plastic bags or levied taxes on their use. Still, people use them, and you need to start cutting back on them as per your choice.

2. Replace plastic coffee pod with recyclable coffee pods

Coffee pods are the dream brewing method. Right? They are convenient, delicious, require less cleaning, and make an exact cup of coffee. However, if you are using plastic pods, then you need to switch to recyclable coffee pods.

The plastic pods are hard to recycle. You can re-use them for creative purposes, but they are a nuisance to the environment. Thus, switch to recyclable coffee pods, which are better for you and the earth.

3. Do not buy water

So many of us buy water when we are out on trips or at restaurants and more. Can you imagine the number of empty bottles that fill the landfill due to this? No, you cannot.

It is time to make a change for the betterment of the world, and that is to carry a bottle with you. It could be a glass or steel bottle, and you can fill it up from a place that has a filter. That way, you will not be worried about the quality of the water, and you also say no to the plastic.

4. Avoid using plastic straws

Plastic straws are a menace. They take up so much time to degrade, and also people are careless with them, leaving them around anywhere. The restaurants need to start using straws that use paper or bamboo as the base. You should say no to plastic straws and start carrying a reusable one so that you don’t have to use the plastic ones.

5. Look for microbeads in your home choices

We buy several products to make our domestic life easy, whether it is makeup or clothes. These things have microbeads which are a type of microplastic. These microplastic are bad for human health and sea animals who can ingest them when these microplastic mix with the ocean water.

6. Recycle with care

We understand the use of plastic cannot stop overnight. However, if you do use plastic things, make sure you recycle them with care. Do not just throw plastic items here & there. Find a proper place where you throw them out, so that does not fill up the landfill.

7. Be part of the cleanup

Do your bit for the ocean by cleaning up the plastic that you will find at the beach. Either join a group that volunteers beach cleaning. Or you can fund one yourself.

8. Say no to plastic cutlery

When we host a party at our home, plastic cutleries are easy to use. There is no burden of cleaning or putting them back in place. Right? However, they are plastic and will end up in the landfill. So, use reusable cutlery, which also saves money.

Single-use plastic is the worst. If you can reuse plastic for any purpose, you will be doing your bit. Finally, try alternatives to ensure that plastic doesn’t consume the planet entirely.
