How To Clean, Deodorize and Care For A Mattress

While we make sure that the pillow covers and sheets covered over the mattress are properly washed and cleaned, few of us really bother to care for the underlying mattress that remains aloof from care and attention. Those who think there is no such thing as mattress caring and cleaning, they do a big mistake and for why, need to get rid of your mattresses early. Follow the tips stated below to add years to the life of your mattress:

Vacuum It

When you don’t clean it regularly, it starts accumulating dust, grit, filth and dead skin cells over time. Hence, to keep it free from allergic dust particles and other contaminants, vacuum your mattress regularly and rotate it every time you do so. By rotating the mattress, you are allowing it to reduce the regular wear and tear and enhance the comfort and support it provides.

Furthermore, when you are vacuuming the mattress, make sure you make use of the clean upholstery attachment if you don’t want the vacuum cleaner to spread the accumulated dirt over the mattress.

Deodorize It

To bedeck the process of its cleaning and clearing, it is a good idea to make use of a natural deodorant to deodorize it. Since your mattress would have been accumulating all the sweat, dirt and other stuff over time, it is pretty obvious for it to develop a certain aroma.

To effectively counteract this problem, sprinkle some baking soda over the mattress, leave it for around half an hour and then vacuum it with the same upholstery attachment. Not many people know that baking soda is an organic deodorizer that works great at deodorizing odors.

If you have pets at home that snuggle with you in bed, then mattress protectors can prevent the bugs and mites from breeding on it.

There are different methods of removing mattress stains. Some of the important ones are:

Dry Suds mattress cleaning method

This is one of the best methods of stain treatment. In the Dry Suds mattress cleaning method, one requires a mild dry powdered detergent, warm water, and an egg beater or electric mixer. In a bowl of dry detergent, add warm water slowly. Thereafter, beat this mixture with the help of an egg beater or electric mixer. Repeat this till suds form.

After the formation of suds, take the deposit of suds off of the top of the bowl. Rub them into the mattress stain by using a sponge. Continue this process until the stain begins to lighten. Dry the mattress by using a gentle blow dryer or fan.

Treatment with hydrogen peroxide

Bloodstain being one of the most difficult spots needs to be removed in a proper manner. The mattresses with blood stains can be treated with hydrogen peroxide. This is a very effective method and removes stain quickly.

Spot cleaning with white vinegar

To remove urine stains from mattresses, treat them with white vinegar. To remove odor, cover the area with baking powder. In addition to white vinegar, one can also employ hydrogen peroxide method for this purpose.

These are some of the important methods of treating various mattress stains. All these methods are highly effectual and can help individuals maintain and clean their mattresses precisely. 1. This is a great post! So many people wash their linens regularly but forget about their actual mattress. I’ve tried the white vinegar spot cleaning and it’s always worked for me. Also if you ever feel like getting it professionally done I would suggest finding a carpet cleaning company that does it. I use https://www.vanschemdry.net/ and I know there are chem-dry’s all around the U.S.

  2. My mattress was such a big investment that I’ve always been too afraid to clean it myself so I always have the professionals do it. I definitely could follow these instructions myself though, so I’m going to give it a go! Thanks for sharing your tips!

  3. Thank you for this information.
