Children are resilient beings. Usually, when they fall down they can spring back up as quickly. They spend most of their waking time falling down and run around. It’s important that they’re given this free reign to practice their legs and coordination as this is the time when they develop the ability to master their legs. Unfortunately, it can’t be avoided that they get injured or scratches from when they miss a step or trip. So what can you do to treat those scrapes and scars, which they could possibly bear for the rest of their lives?

The Usual Scar Cream

Scar creams are a dime in a dozen in the market today. Most of them can be purchased over the counter from pharmacies. These topical substances are usually infused with natural and chemical ingredients to help eliminate the redness, reduce the scars, and restore the skin’s texture. But these are made for grown children or adults that have less sensitive skin than toddlers. You will often see a lot of them indicate the age-appropriate users for their products as some of their ingredients can have an adverse effect on the skin of young tots.

Caution for Children

Children, especially the little ones have thin skin since they are growing at a higher rate, their skin is prone to irritation. If you’re using an ordinary topical cream used by adults on children, they can experience irritation because of the non-organic components that may be used in those creams. They will show signs of redness and sensitivity in the affected area. This will aggravate the scar and will impede the healing process. In the end, they might develop a scar because of the cream and not scratch.

Child-Friendly Topical Cream

It is important to consider the children’s special pre-requisites when treating their scars. A special scar cream for kids is already available, but you must know more about the product before you use it on your toddlers. An all-natural topical cream is an effective and safe way to treat your child’s scrapes and cuts. Because of the children’s soft and sensitive skin, a specialized cream must have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce the swelling and redness of the injured area. As well as it should cover the skin to protect it from infection and contaminants. This will help the damaged area heal and it naturally moisturizes it so it rehydrates the skin as it heals. This will result in a more enduring skin with a less glaring mark from the injury.

Other ways to help reduce scars

We may not totally prevent our children from getting hurt with their games and roughhousing. But we can do things to prevent or protect them from cutting or hurting themselves:

  1. Use protective pads. If the pads are too cumbersome for them to move around then let them wear pants that can cover their knees. Also, it’s important to give them the right footwear so that they can move around conveniently.
  2. If they get wounded, don’t let it get exposed to heat or to other elements. This will prevent further infection as well as prevent the wound from losing moisture.
  3. Clean the wound with clean water before applying any products. Also, don’t use hydrogen peroxide often as it dries the skin and may cause irritation.
  4. Let the wound heal naturally. You can apply scar cream to prevent the formation of prominent marks, but don’t overdo it by applying unnecessary products.

Scar creams are safe for your little tots, but only if they are specified for their use. Be careful of cheap cream that eliminates scar, especially when it comes to young children. Scars are often seen as permanent reminders of how we got hurt. But nowadays, they can be treated or prevented. Our children should be allowed to play to their heart’s content and if they fall, it’s our responsibility as parents to make them feel everything’s going to be alright.
