Jesus & Justice- Pastor Mike Patz?

A Positive Experience for all of His creation.

The Word justice is included throughout the bible and often mentioned in church and service. But how can we address the disparities that still exist in our world today? As disciples, we have something to say and do about it!

Pastor Mike from Greenhouse Church in Gainesville, Florida, will pave the way for us to follow the calls of justice and make a difference in our society.

As we make our way through the Scriptures and explore the teachings of the Lord, we find justice commonly mentioned in a far more positive light than one might think. Envisioning a positive outlook for the creation of justice in our lives makes it easier to understand the reason it was included in scripture so often. God’s intention of shalom for his creation is for us to flourish in all that he gave us. As we stray from his desire, God becomes relentless in leading us to no longer stray but instead follow the path of love and enlightenment, leading our brothers and sisters along with us as well. He does so by sending poets, storytellers, prophets, and more to lead us back to the light of restorative justice. The Old Testament is there to remind us that restorative justice is a big part of God’s work and should always be a part of our society, no matter how much we evolve through technology, relationships, and financial growth.

Think about a time that the opportunity for restorative justice made its way into your life- did you turn the other way, or did you embrace His calling to be an example in our society of how justice is an integral part of experiencing good from God?

Jesus and justice are often brought up in scripture. Jesus’s early ministry is brought up at his small Nazareth synagogue in the scripture, and has details about restorative justice and shalom for all of his disciples. Devotion to religion, fasting, and commitment to the poor in our community are all ways in which God gives us an opportunity to present restorative justice in a way that will make a difference for the world, for God, and for the sick, poor, and suffering we tend to look past. Justice is not only needed in your immediate family, friend, or church group, but most importantly those that are forgotten.

Take a moment to consider this time of extreme cold- in Florida, it is even 50 degrees today! This time of discomfort is when the need for justice is most prevalent. Did you drive or walk past someone in need? Did you feel a calling for restorative justice in our community by helping the vulnerable? We all have these feelings and sometimes more often than we’d like to admit, we let our minds wash them away. Make it a point this week to use the extra vulnerabilities this weather brings and make a difference with the thought of JUSTICE in your mind. What would Jesus do and how can we all be a positive example for our children, family, friends, and church circle?
