Need To Send Your Child To Rehab? Here’s What To Pack?

A rehab with garden outside.

There will be times in your life where you have to pack off your children somewhere. It’s always difficult to say goodbye, whether it be a few days on a school trip, sending them off to universitye ne, or even when they are flying the nest for the final time. It happens to us all.

However, there are some periods where we don’t expect to be sending our children away, whether that be due to illness or addiction. It can be heartbreaking sending off a child to rehab if they’ve been suffering from drug or alcohol abuse, but addiction treatment is available, and can be entirely necessary for the benefit of the rest of your life.

As a mother, you’ll want to make sure that they have all they need for treatment and getting back on track. But what exactly do you pack for such instances? After all, it isn’t like going on a school trip…

Plenty Of Clothing

Pack them at least a week’s worth of clean clothing as there’s no real knowing how long it will take for the treatment to be a success. What’s more, pack a range of clothes and not just comfies, which you might perhaps consider. It’s important that there are also elements of normality, so as well as pyjamas and slippers, do pack things that they would wear on a day-to-day basis too.

Equally, for those who like to wear make-up, pack what they would usually wear as again it will add an air of normality to proceedings, especially when it comes to looking like themselves as they leave rehab.

A Notebook And Pen

It is really useful for people to take notes during rehab, so ensure they have the resources to do that. A pen and pad is great to jot down all their learnings, which they can refer back to both throughout the rehab process and when they enter the outside world again.

This will help them remain strong and revert to tactics that can aid recovery and stem cravings, while it’s also an opportunity to understand their processes and allows you to support those.

Home Comforts

It can take time to settle into a rehab centre so home comforts are a must. Everyone has home comforts and they can range from family photos to particular books, teddies or even particular TV shows or movies.

Do what you can to ensure they have as many home comforts as possible to make them feel like they are still loved and supported even when you’re not visiting them.
