A shower cabin is an ordinary product in the sanitary industry today. If you are interested in these products, take a look at our bathroom supply store, New Bathroom Style. There are certain costs in the mechanisms for promoting this product, but the range of products offered is generally quite extensive. The ratio of price and quality for this group of goods indicates the imbalance in this sector of the plumbing market.

A shower cabin is a fenced-equipped place for taking a shower. There are open and closed showers.

The first partly enclose the shower area – the inner wall is tiled. The latter is completely sealed around the perimeter and has a roof on top and, therefore, can have a complex structure for organizing hydro massage jets. An open cabin can be built between two walls and a closet with sliding doors.

The shower cabin can stand directly on the floor – this option is widespread in different countries, it is rarely used in the US. In such places, there is no base, and the water pours directly onto the floor with a drain into the sewer. Cabins with bases are considered more reliable.

A high-quality base must withstand a sufficiently large weight and not bend, have an anti-slip profile. The drainage of water must fit into the structure of the base. In terms of shape and size, the base must be compact and roomy so that it is not cramped inside the cabin.There are few types of shower bases:

  • enameled cast iron (rare nowadays);
  • metal (steel) enameled;
  • ceramic;
  • acrylic;
  • bases made of artificial marble.

Metal enameled trays are durable and reliable, but they have their drawbacks – they make a lot of noise under the pressure of the shower. The quality of the enamel determines the quality of such a base.

The dignity of earthenware bases is in their stability, massiveness, but they are fragile, like all sanitary ware.

Acrylic bases are warm and pleasant to the touch. However, acrylic has a significant drawback due to its very nature. It is a combination of two plastics: hard and soft – due to this, a complex and flexible product is obtained simultaneously. This means that the acrylic base must be strengthened from below since it is not strong enough and will bend. Most often, an aluminum frame on screw legs with adjustable height is used for this.

The shower enclosure frame is made of aluminum with a white, colored, or chrome finish. Shower doors can be divided into two main types: made of polystyrene (plastic, plexiglass) and tempered safety glass. Polystyrene doors are cheaper but have several disadvantages: from long-term use, they gradually lose their original appearance, as if they “grow cloudy,” stains may appear on them. An opaque matte option is more suitable.

Glass doors are a quality and durable product. They are made of special safety glass, tempered by firing, which is not inferior in strength to car windshields. Water and dirt slide off the glass without leaving marks, so the glass curtains are easy to clean and won’t cloud over time. A mirror is available in transparent, opaque, and rough, with or without patterns.

According to the method of opening, sliding and swing doors are distinguished. Swing doors can be a single or double slab. They require a larger bathroom area. Sliding doors come in two and four-slab, three-slab, and six-slab. When closed, they are held in place by a magnetic rubber band. The more flaps, the less space inside the cab, but at the same time, the frame is more robust. Doors move on rollers, which must be hidden inside the frame so that water does not penetrate them. The best doors open and close silently.

High-quality products are pretty expensive – a shower cabin should be practical and look beautiful. The best option: glass walls, which must be made of tempered safety glass (at least 6 mm thick), profiles have high strength and serve as natural support, doors move quickly and silently. In addition, a high-quality cabin has no oxidizing parts, and all elements are designed so that they are easy to keep clean.

How to choose a cabin in terms of placement in the bathroom? This issue is easy to understand if you look at the corresponding diagrams and photographs offered in this material.

A good shower stall does not accumulate dirt. Therefore, it is better to have a cabin and a shower, the design of which contains as few grooves and corners as possible. The shower cabin in all conditions must be so safe that the washer does not have to fear injury from the sharp edges of plastic or ordinary glass. The cab must not be damaged by knocks and shocks – even in the event of an accident.The prices and quality of shower cabins are pretty varied. Thus, it can be stated that a shower cabin is rather complex plumbing equipment, the choice of which, for high-quality repairs in the bathroom, and even more so for installation, requires a professional approach.
