As soon as you hold your little bundle of joy in your arms, you start anticipating all their milestones and firsts. Ideally, walking is one of the most anticipated achievements of most parents. As experts say it in places such as Yamo Baby blog, your baby will start walking from when they are around nine months. However, since babies grow at different rates, your child may begin walking before or after nine months. Luckily, they are signs that your baby will send to tell you that they are about to start walking so that you can get ready with your camera. Additionally, this will give you time to baby proof your house since as soon as they start walking, you will rarely be seated. Below are some of these signs.

Pulling Up On Furniture To Stand

For your baby to start walking, they will first have to learn how to stand upright. For this reason, when you realize that your baby is using the furniture around to stand, you can expect them to make their first steps soon. By pulling up, they are strengthening their legs, which will enable them to walk. That will be like a form of mini workouts for the baby, which will allow them to stand independently and finally start moving on their own. However, do not pressure them to take their first step as this could cause more harm than good.

The Baby Is Cruising Around

As soon as the baby can stand on their own, the next thing that you will see them doing is cruising. They will use anything around, such as the coffee table or other furniture in the house, to move around. This way, they will learn how to shift weight between their legs and also balance their steps. It will also help strengthen their muscles to handle their weight when they start walking. Therefore, ensure that they are a safe path of objects that they can use to walk around. Additionally, ensure that each of these objects that they could use when cruising is well secured on the wall or on the ground to avoid situations where they could topple over.

They Can Balance On One Foot And Bend Their Knees

Balancing is a crucial part of the baby to start walking. Therefore, when you realize that they can comfortably balance on one foot, their muscles are strong enough to start walking. When you know that they are in a position to do this, you can encourage them to do it more often. Additionally, the other part that the baby will need to set off is the knees. For this reason, when you realize that they can bend their knees, the first step is around the corner. You can also see them squat down from standing, which is also an indication that you should get ready for their first steps.

They Are Fussy And Have Changes In Sleep Pattern

More often than not, before there is a significant milestone, the baby is often fussier. That is because they are frustrated by failed attempts or tired of working out their lower body. In most cases, they will manifest their fussy behavior during mealtime. Therefore, if mealtime has become stressful for you and your baby, you may have a walker in the house soon. On the other hand, since walking is a significant milestone, it is accompanied by other developments in the body. As a result, the brain may be working more than usual, thus needing more rest. Don’t be alarmed by an extra-long nap, as this could mark a significant milestone on the way.

They Can Walk On A Push-Toy Or When Assisted

Confidence is one thing that your baby will need for them to walk on their own. Therefore, safe and age-appropriate push toys will help the child gain the confidence they need to walk independently. On the other hand, you can also hold their hands and give them the support needed to walk around. If they can comfortably walk when given such assistance, then get ready as they will try to make the first steps on their own soon after they have gained the needed confidence.

A baby’s first steps are a big moment for both the baby and the parent. Therefore, as the parent, you want to make sure that you see it the first time it happens. In case you notice any of the signs above, then be on the lookout since this significant milestone is about to happen.
