Thailand

Introduction

If you are planning on living in Thailand long-term, there is a lot of preparation that must be done. The first thing to do is make sure that your visa is set up correctly and that everything is working properly with it. Next, you should figure out the cost of living in Thailand and how much money you will need to live here. Once this has been completed, then it’s time to get started on finding housing in your area and looking into buying a car or motorcycle if needed. Finally, you must understand how things work here regarding healthcare so that nothing will come as a surprise when something happens during your time here as well!

Prepare your visa

Before you begin to pack your bags, take a moment to check the visa requirements for Thailand. The rules may be different depending on your nationality or how long you intend to stay in the country.

The cost of living in Thailand and the budget to live there

The cost of living in Thailand is pretty reasonable when compared to other countries. The most expensive parts are Bangkok and Chiang Mai, which is where you’ll be staying if you choose this country for your long-term retirement. However, there are still ways to save money even in these places.

You should know that food (especially fruit) and transportation are generally cheaper than in other countries. For example, while a meal at a nice restaurant might cost $25 in America or England, it would probably only be $10-15 here!

The Thai currency is called the baht (B). You can use US dollars almost anywhere but don’t forget about exchanging them before you leave the airport because there aren’t any ATMs until you get into town!

Get a Car Insurance If You Own a Car

If you own a car in Thailand, it is recommended to get car insurance. This will protect you in case of an accident, and provide financial compensation to those involved in the accident. There are several different types of car insurance companies in Thailand; some offer better coverage than others so shop around before making your final decision.

How to deal with the Thai Healthcare System

  • If you’re not seriously ill and you don’t know what is wrong with yourself, go to a private clinic instead of the hospital. The cost will be much lower and private clinics generally have better doctors anyway.
  • If it’s not an emergency, don’t go to a hospital at all unless you need treatment or surgery (e.g., broken bones) that cannot be done by any other means than going through a Thai hospital system.
  • Do whatever it takes to avoid going into debt over your healthcare costs if possible!

How to find the right accommodation for you

  • Renting an apartment or house. If you choose to live in a rented apartment or house, you will need to pay monthly rent and utilities. The amount of money you will be spending on these things depends on the location of your rental home. Utilities can include electricity, water, internet access (if available), cable television, and more.
  • Buying a condo or house for sale: You can also buy property in Thailand by purchasing it through one of the many real estate companies here that offer this service. This type of housing is for those who want their place but don’t want to deal with having to find a landlord who will take care of repairs if something breaks down inside the building where they live! As far as maintenance goes though there are still ongoing costs involved
