Whether you live in Australia or are planning a trip from overseas, Victoria is one of the very best states in the country to visit.

What’s great about it is it’s a small state, so everything it has to offer is accessible without having to travel for days to get there. In fact, many of the locations and attractions are located only a few hours outside the capital of Melbourne.

Let’s tick off a few things to see and do in Victoria.

Take In the City Sights from a Rooftop Bar

If you’re staying in the city and want to experience the sights of Melbourne from above, there are many rooftop bars in town where you can relax with a drink and share a meal with friends.

It doesn’t matter even if it’s winter, as all the bars provide outdoor heaters as well as blankets to keep patrons comfortable.

Daytime or at night, a rooftop bar atop one of the city’s highrise buildings really is a spectacular way to sightsee and have a great time.

Point Nepean National Park

Victoria is renowned for its stunning coastlines and countryside. There are many designated National Parks in the state, and one of the most stunning is Point Nepean National Park.

Not only is it a natural wonderland, but because the area was one of the first places to be settled in Victoria, nature is also interspersed with historical memories from the past.

Located right on the coastline, take a bicycle ride along the bitumen pathway and explore both nature and a slice of Australia’s unique history by checking out the monuments and landmarks along the way.

Spend a Day At Flemington Race Track

Thoroughbred horse racing is huge in Australia, with Flemington Racecourse in the heart of Melbourne being the unofficial capital of Australian racing.

You can visit the track any time of the year for a day at the races, but the main reason this racecourse is so famous is because it plays host to the country’s biggest horse race on the first Tuesday in November.

Be trackside for the 2019 Melbourne Cup, then head into town and party the night away with all the other Melbourne Cup revellers.

Take a Hike On Mount Macedon

Mount Macedon is one of the state’s highest mountains and is located in Victoria’s Great Dividing Range, a few hours north-west of Melbourne.

The peak is a favourite with hikers from across the state, the country, and those visiting from further afield.

A unique blend of gardens with colourful flowers and wild bush, the mountain has many walking trails to suit all fitness levels. It’s a great way to get some exercise while taking in the sights of one of the best places in Victoria to visit.

Once you reach the summit of Mount Macedon, you’ll be pleased to know there is a restaurant there where you can kick back and relax for a spell before hiking back down.

MacKenzie Falls

Located in another of Victoria’s National Parks is MacKenzie Falls. Situated in the heart of the Grampians National Park in the state’s west, the falls are a stunning place to venture to when hiking through this magnificent wilderness district.

The walking trails lead right up close to the cascade, so close that you can feel the cool mountain air and spray from the waterfall as you take in the sights.

Check it out from the lookout above, or trek on down to the rock pool beneath the falls to really experience its wonder.

The best time to visit the falls is during winter or early spring, as that’s when there is the most water flow.

See the Spectacular Yarra Valley from the Air

No, not in a plane or a helicopter, but a hot air balloon ride.

The Yarra Valley is only a few hours drive east of Melbourne and is well known for its vineyards and world class wines, but it also offers some of the most picturesque scenery Victoria has to offer visitors.

And what better way to absorb the area’s beauty than from above.

Hot air ballooning is a low key and relaxing way to get an aerial view, and it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
