We are a little over half way done with 2020, making it the perfect time to review the top 5 trending deserts of 2020. 2020 so far has seen some not so great times, but luckily for us desert lovers there have been some great deserts popping up. Deserts are a way to bring a little bit of happiness into your day, and these 5 desert trends will definitely spark some joy. These trends are not listed in any particular order, just the 5 top trends.

1. Sweet and Savory Treats

Deserts featuring savory ingredients like bacon, avocado, and tahini are super popular. There’s always been the classic combinations of salt and caramel or pretzels and chocolate, but the flavor combinations are being taken to a whole new level. Even vegan chocolate is all the rage right now. Baking will now incorporate more vegetables and nuts to contrast the sweetness of the desert. Some of the flavor combinations may sound odd at first, but keep an open mind when trying these deserts because most of them are delicious!

2. Cookie Dough

Cookie dough isn’t new, it’s stood the test of time and we still love it. DOUGHP have brought some really interesting flavours to the market recently and there’s no doubt that this brand will become more popular this year and beyond. We found a really interesting Doughp Cookie Dough Review that says it all – yum!.

3. Dairy Free Deserts

Ice cream is a classic desert, but for people who don’t eat dairy for health or environmental reasons they are forced to go without. Plant based diets have gained a lot of popularity in 2020, so it is no surprise that diary free deserts have as well. You can now find deserts made with oat milk, coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, you name it. These deserts are sometimes better than the original ones made with dairy!

4. Ube Deserts

Going with the trend of blue, be on the lookout for more deserts being made with the purple yam called Ube. The Ube is a yam from the Philippines and has been used in traditional Asian cuisine for years. The yam is sweet and nutty and it can give deserts a sort of vanilla taste. Also, the purple color of the Ube creates beautiful looking deserts. The Ube can be used in all sorts of different deserts including ice cream, cakes, infused chocolate, donuts, the list is almost endless.

5. Alcoholic Deserts

People love alcohol. People love deserts. Why not mix them together and create boozy deserts? Well, people have come to this realization and 2020 has seen lots of new alcoholic deserts. These deserts go further than a jello shot or a bailey’s coffee, they are actual deserts with alcohol in them! You can get alcohol ice cream, cakes with alcohol butter cream, or a doughnut filled with boozy syrup. These deserts are not just using the flavors from alcohol, they actually contain alcohol and some could even make you a little tipsy if you eat too many!
