black-ish

While in Los Angeles a few weeks ago for my Disney and ABC press trip, we got the awesome opportunity to go on the set of black-ish, screen 2 new episodes, as well as meet the gorgeous Tracee Ellis Ross! Visiting the Set of black-ish with Tracee Ellis Ross #ABCTVEvent

We first screened one new episode, which is the episode you will get to see tonight, Man at Work. I loved that the room was decorated to go along with the episode that is airing that week.

Next we made our way down to the building that the set is on. WHen we got off the elevator, we got a big surprise because Tracee Ellis Ross was there! I was so amazed by how sweet she was – she made it a point to shake every one of our hands and hear our names. I thought that was so sweet.Visiting the Set of black-ish with Tracee Ellis Ross #ABCTVEvent

Tracee led us to the set. I’m excited to share some of the insider info. First, the above photo. When they shoot inside the house, a lot of times you see through the windows to outside. Guess what? It’s just a curtain! It can be moved all around the set of the house so that it can be put on the outside of any room.

Another fun fact? The bottom of the stairs? Those stairs actually lead to nowhere!Visiting the Set of black-ish with Tracee Ellis Ross #ABCTVEvent

It was fun having Tracee walk us throughout the whole set. There’s a sign on the beautiful bed in the master bedroom that actually says “Please DO NOT sit on, sleep on or use the set furniture.” Tracee shared with us that they don’t listen to it. She has taken many naps in that bed. 🙂

I share a pet peeve with Tracee about actresses who just wake up in a scene and have makeup on!

I like to keep it really authentic. I usually, if we can because of the shooting schedule, I usually remove my mascara and most of my makeup when I’m in the bed. Sometimes we can’t ’cause we’re about to go back to another scene where I need to have my mascara on, but mostly I try to be authentic and not have my makeup on when I’m in the bed. It’s a pet peeve of mine when you see an actress wake up with lip gloss. I’m like, it’s not on the pillow – interesting.

I love how she tries to keep it authentic when she can. That makes her an even better actress in my eyes.

Tracee’s vibe is just all around great. You can tell she really loves what she does. That’s including working with the kids.

There’s that myth, don’t work with kids or animals. I can’t understand that. I had such a good experience. You can say it this way, they’ve been on the planet for less time than us and they’re not jaded, they just have a pure joy
