  • Guppies another vibrant and colorful group of fish. Guppies are freshwater school fish, meaning that they tend to thrive within groups, which is great for populating your tank with an interesting, and beautiful species of fish!
  • Fresh Water Sharks these sharks are like their saltwater counterparts in the sense that they are solitary and not school fish for an aquarium. However, they are still compatible with many other freshwater fish and will add something different to your freshwater aquarium.
  • Angelfish freshwater fish for your aquarium does not get much better than freshwater angelfish. Their unique bodies and coloration are truly something to behold, and they will bring much personality to your fish community.

3 Tips for choosing the right freshwater fish for your aquarium

  1. Make sure the fish you end up choosing are compatible with one another. It is certainly something that can get overlooked when choosing your fish, but housing multiple fish that do not get along will only lead in stress and potentially dire consequences for your community.
  2. Is your tank set up correctly for the fish you want to introduce? If you already own an established tank or not, you will need to create or have created the right environment for the fish you are going to acquire. A lot of fish will need hiding spaces and other things to help stimulate them, if they get bored or are not in their preferred environment, then they can become unhappy and ill.

Neon Tetras these are perhaps one of the most well-known freshwater fish types on the market today. The Neon Tetra is an incredibly peaceful and gentle fish species, small and friendly, only growing to around 0.8 inches (2.2 cm) in length. They thrive within large groups and enjoy a tank filled with rocks, plants, and other accessories that they can hide in. They are also incredibly beautiful fish, with neon blue bodies and a bright red stripe running lengthways across.

Guppies these fish are arguably the most popular freshwater tropical fish out there, not only do they come in a variety of incredible colors and patterns, but they are compatible with pretty much all other freshwater fish and have a very calm and peaceful nature. They tend to grow to a maximum length of 2 inches (5 cm).

Swordtails Swordtail fish are extremely unique, with bright and vibrant body colors, and an awesome-looking sword-shaped tail on full display. Despite having the somewhat intimidating name swordtail, they are some of the most peaceful fish and will thrive in large groups of their own, and within big communities consisting of many different fish. They will grow to a maximum length of 5.5 inches (14 cm).
