Applying positive reinforcement

This method involves immediate reward of desired behavior within seconds after it has happened. And that way, the dog finally starts to associate the behavior with the reward. Dogs will always repeat good behavior when a reward follows it. However, positive reinforcement requires one to be consistent; therefore, everyone in your house should use the same commands and rewards as that of a trainer to make training easier.

Scientific dog training

Scientific dog training has been evolving over the years because its information keeps building up and changing. Professionals use this method with the aim of understanding the dog’s nature and its ability to be conditioned. Trainers have to ensure they understand the dog’s behavior first before correcting it. They rely on performing deep research and staying up to date on the latest studies about dog training which makes this process a good deal because trainers operate on techniques they fully understand.

Mirror training

This method involves positive reinforcement with the use of a clicking machine. The technique is named mirror because the trainer teaches the dog by encouraging it to copy their actions. Dogs naturally copy their trainers. If the owner sits down, the dog will also sit down because it’s a habit for dogs to want to mirror their owners.Similarly, if the owner is stressed, the dog is likely to get stressed too. How a dog is trained has a very strong impact on its personality, and that’s why aggressiveness should not be displayed.

Obedience training

This method is commonly used on dogs that are confused with their environment making them behave in a strange manner like being aggressive, dominant, and many others. Also, the dog might start this alpha dog behavior from the way it is treated at your home, for example, being allowed in bed and enjoying other human privileges.

Professional trainers perform obedience training by teaching and conditioning dogs via action and response. Their attitude, confidence, and calmness are equally important because, such as how as leaders, they ought to portray confidence and authority in the way they talk and stand.

Relationship-based training

Trainers use this method to achieve results that are beneficial to both the dog and the trainer while at the same time strengthening and enhancing their bond. The basic principles in this method include learning to interpret the dog’s body language perfectly, putting the animal’s needs first, finding out what motivates the animal and using it to your advantage, avoiding aggressive methods, and careful supervision.

Clicker training

In this technique, trainers use reward devices to make quick and sharp gestures such as whistling to let the dog know when an intended behavior is achieved. One advantage of using the clicker training technique is that it signals the wanted behavior immediately when it is achieved and what to be rewarded. Trainers then use the clicker further to add new verbal commands and shape the new behavior.

Trainers condition the dog to know that a click means there is a reward for them. From there, the dog associates his actions with the clicker and reward.  Finally, they introduce verbal commands to form other associations. This method helps the dogs to learn new tricks and shape their behavior.

Electronic training

This method involves using an electric device to deliver a shock to a dog when the desired task is not performed. Trainers mostly use it from a distance where a leash cannot be used. These collars train a dog to stay within the boundaries of unfenced fields and yards.

However, using electric training can cause harm when used by unqualified people. It can cause unnecessary physical pain, a lot of anxiety, and stress to the dogs. It also only focuses on punishing bad behavior rather than rewarding, and this way, the dog pays more attention to what they should not do than on what they should be doing.
