Kids are always so thrilled about their birthdays, so you naturally want to do something extra special for your child. While you’re certainly planning to include tasty snacks, a cake, some fun music and cute decoration, you can also consider making everything themed for that extra impression. What kind of theme would your kid like? Consult with them, but if you come back empty-handed, here are few themes to spark your inspiration:
Costume party
Today, kids are pretty much obsessed with their favorite cartoon or movie heroes, so why not let them live their fantasy for one day? Organize a costume party where everyone needs to come dressed up as their fave superhero, Disney character or video game character. Provide plenty of foam props like swords and magic wands and watch the kids’ imagination work. This party will result in a lot of great memories and adorable photos.
Water party
If you live somewhere with super hot summers, allow kids to have fun outside and cool off in a safe way. Organize a water birthday party with kiddy pools and inflatable slides, plenty of water balloons and bubbles and even includes some water guns for extra fun and laughter. You can also add a powerful foam machine to your water party to have foam party kids. Under your watchful eye, everyone will be safe and have a lot of refreshing fun. Make sure to provide some healthy and fresh snacks (ice screams and pops work like a charm) and plenty of dry towels and extra t-shirts, because everyone will be wet and starving after playing in the water for hours.
Carnival party

Who doesn’t like carnivals! This fun and colorful theme is perfect for kids of all ages and you actually don’t need to spend tens of thousands of dollars to organize it. Bring the carnival to your backyard by making different games like horseshoe throw, water coin drop, balloon pop, bobbing for apples and other classics. You can also rent a bouncy castle if you have space, and kids will be thrilled. Make sure to light up your space properly because carnivals are known to be colorful and flashy. Renting light up numbers with your kid’s birthday is a great idea that will attract attention. Expect many great photos next to that sign, especially if you invest in a Polaroid-style camera so kids can see their photos instantly and take them home as keepsakes.
Lego party
Many kids are simply in love with Legos and for all the right reasonsthey are fun, colorful, build motor skills and exercise imagination. If you have an avid builder at home, feel free to throw them a real Lego kingdom birthday party. Naturally, provide plenty of these colorful blocks for everyone and organize a few side games like guess the number of Lego pieces in a jar, pin the head on a Lego guy or make a Lego doppelganger. A friendly building competition is a must as well, and you will have plenty of opportunities to incorporate Legos into snacks, cakes and decorations. Lego party favors will also be more than appreciated.
Sports party

Sports are great for childrenthey are good for body and mind development and they help kids grow their social skills. So make sure to encourage your kid’s love of sports by organizing a sports-themed birthday party. You can go with one particular sport like football but you can also encourage every kid to choose their favorite sport, dress up as an athlete and show off their skills. Make sure to provide plenty of space, soft mats and children-appropriate balls and props. In the spirit of the Olympics, you can even throw a friendly competition and award everyone with medals.
Art-themed party
Kids are born artists, but if your kid loves to draw and paint more than anything, why not provide them with a fun birthday party full of art and little artists? That can be the best birthday present for a little girl or a talented boy. The best thing about this birthday idea is that you won’t have to break the bank. A roll of white paper, some washable, non-toxic paints and a few other supplies are all you will need from props for this party. At the end of the day, you can create a little exhibit for parents who came to pick up their kids and make every child feel special and happy.
All of these party ideas are fun, healthy and safe for kids, but make sure to always keep an eye on the party and provide help when needed. If your kid is old enough to make decisions, consult with them about the party theme and allow them to help with decoration and organizing. This will make your kid love their birthday party even more!
