When people think of container gardens they do not usually think of carrots. The truth is, carrots make a great container vegetable. In fact, they grow better in containers where they are less likely to hit rock or twig and fork or twist in shape.

Tomatoes are great container plants as well. These large plants do well in a nice size container. The important part is to provide them with a nice tomato cage. Nearly any variety of tomato can thrive in a container.

Like tomatoes, peppers can thrive in a large container. From bell peppers to spicy chilis, you can grow pretty much any pepper in containers. This is a great option if you are looking for a vegetable that will add flavor to your meals.

Want something that can grow quickly in a container? Radishes can grow in just a few short weeks and grow well in shallow containers. Radishes are ready to harvest in about 4 weeks.

Another quick to harvest vegetable that grows well in containers are beans. Opt for a bush style bean that doesn’t need a trellis to thrive. These are a favorite vegetable of many and can be great to enjoy right out of the container garden.

When it comes to vegetables that grow well in a container garden you can’t get much better than salad greens. From spinach to kale, leafy green vegetables thrive in containers even inside the house near a window will work well because these vegetables do not need full sun to grow.

  1. I have never even thought about container gardening, I’ll have to look into it more! We used to have a great garden in our backyard, but we just moved to an apartment in the city and I really miss having fresh vegetables! Thanks for the tip. I really want to grow fresh tomatoes and peppers, and if they’ll grow in containers, that’s great!

I was going to grow flowers and vegetables in containers on the patio of my 1 br apartment when I moved here, but there was a problem with water overflowing unto the patios below so the management restricted ANY gardening/live plants containers on the patios. My apartment is too small to have containers inside so I’m no longer able to grow any and I really miss it.
